A proper daytime voiceover welcomed Keith D. Robinson to Beyond the Gates. Yes, there’s a new Ted in the DMV and Fairmont Crest. Robinson took over from the great Maurice Johnson, and he got off to a good start. He already made us feel for Ted. In other Thursday, May 15 news, June told Naomi she didn’t know who the kids were in the mysterious photo she left behind. Leslie flitted to Bill’s law office to confront the man who helped Ted run her out of town. He sent her a cease and desist order, basically saying to keep his name out of her mouth. She barely acknowledged her daughter’s birthday, and she went head-to-head with Kat, who was fierce as usual.
Kat the MVP
With each week, Colby Muhammad, aka Kat Richardson, gets better and better and more valuable for her insight, deductions, sassiness, and willingness to stand up for her truth despite the fear behind her eyes.
From the jump, she suspected something was off with Eva (Ambyr Michelle), and she was right. She’s gotten some credit for this from her family, but maybe not enough. She’s harsh and her dislike for her half-sister is unrelenting, but despite this, she will not stop attempting to get some justice for her family.
While some of her reasoning may be a little off, she usually gets to the right answer eventually. For instance, that’s exactly what’s happening currently. While talking to Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla), she realized that a stranger didn’t cause Laura’s hit-and-run and that the accident wasn’t coincidental.

Kat VS Leslie
After she realized that either Eva or Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) had run poor Laura (Destiny Love) off the road, she raced to her dad’s hotel room, where she promptly confronted Leslie. She didn’t hold back. Instead, she told her what she thought happened to Laura.
Leslie admitted it, even though she didn’t say it exactly in so many words. She thinks she’s in the clear because there’s no evidence—or so she thought. Kat actually recorded the entire conversation, complete with Leslie giving very specific details of what went down.

Kat was brilliant, a total MVP, and her family needs to lay out the red carpet for her. Also, earlier in the episode, she listened to her dad. She really listened to him and ended up feeling some empathy for him, despite that being the last thing she wanted to do.
Although it was Keith D. Robinson’s first airdate, he and Muhammad did their best to wring as much emotion and understanding out of that scene as they could. They were successful.
