On the Monday, April 28 episode of Beyond the Gates, Anita Dupree continued to worry about a potential comeback concert. Ultimately, she wants to reunite with the Articulettes. But she had doubts about that happening because of the way she treated the other two Articulettes. Meanwhile, Martin turned to Vernon about his dreams. Ashley and Derek clashed as he moved into Ashley’s tiny apartment. And Leslie harbored hateful feelings for the entire Dupree family.

Living Her Best Life

Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) was on a tear on Monday. She told her friends, Jan (Jerri Tubbs) and Mona (Karan Kendrick), that she loved them—it sounded like a goodbye. At Orphey Gene’s, she gushed over Martin (Brandon Claybon) and Vernon (Clifton Davis). She got her very own wig montage. Plus, Eva (Ambyr Michelle) observed that Leslie’s revenge has never been about money. In truth, some of it is about the money.

Leslie felt she deserved the life Ted (Maurice Johnson) was getting to play out every single day. She wanted to be the spouse of a renowned doctor. She claimed that Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) was handed everything from birth, sidestepping the fact that Nicole went to school for years and years and then worked to become an esteemed psychiatrist.

Sure, she and the rest of the family were given every advantage due to their family’s status. But they didn’t sit on their laurels. They made something of themselves. They became lawyers, politicians, doctors, supermodels, fundraisers, and more.

It truly felt like Leslie blamed Nicole even more than Ted. So now her revenge is all about her thirst for the truth to be revealed and justice for how she was treated. On top of that, she wants to bleed the Duprees dry. But the problem is you can’t tell the truth and bleed the family dry simultaneously. Something’s got to give. A choice needs to be made.

We bet that Leslie chooses revenge and humiliates the Duprees. If she can make it rain in the process, she will.

Living Her Truth

Meanwhile, Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) goes for what she wants, even if it breaks the rules. She asked Martin for his thoughts on threesomes because she’s involved in one now. She has been experimenting with a husband-and-wife, and so far, so good. However, there was one glitch.

She’s way more into the wife, and she’s just not that into the husband. So she connected with Allison (Brianna Roberts) at Uptown, where she poured out her feelings to this woman who could have responded poorly. Allison knows that she and her husband are one unit. However, in addition to seeking out threesomes, they also have an open marriage. And Chelsea learned that as long as the hubby knows what’s up, they can have a solo side situation.

You can’t get what you want if you don’t ask, right? Chelsea communicated her issues, and she was rewarded for it. But anytime there are only three involved, someone will feel left out. And it could be Chelsea who’s the one left behind. So, she should navigate these waters carefully.

Living Together

Finally, Ashley (Jen Jacob) and Derek (Ben Gavin) decided to move together a second ago, and Ben didn’t waste any time (his lease was up). He moved his ratty old chair, a moosehead, and more of his things over.

The thing is, these two didn’t come up with a plan. Ashley’s apartment is tiny, and while it’s understandable that he’s not organized, the melding of lives needs to be done delicately. And Ashley isn’t one to hide her annoyance and frustration. She wears it on her sleeves and her face.

They’ll probably figure things out, but who wants to bet that Ashley and Derek might not be together by the end of the summer? He keeps saying stuff like opposites attract, and while that is true, opposites repel each other, too. Their incompatibility is showing despite both being first responders and sharing that similarity.
