It was just another Tuesday episode for Beyond the Gates, yet this June 24 episode ended up bringing truths, resentment, sincere apologies, and a mega-summit to deal with the Martin mystery. Smitty connected the dots with Jacob. Hayley experienced a health emergency. And Bill and Ted shared epiphanies and discoveries.
Bill Becomes Self-Aware
Well, we didn’t expect such an emotional and liberating conversation to go down between Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) and Dani (Karla Mosley). Not four months into the series, anyway.
The reasons for Bill’s mega-mea culpa to Dani weren’t just about his mini-stroke. This Martin (Brandon Claybon) mystery must be no joke because it has Bill contemplating life. It has him rethinking his existence and thinking about his actions.
Bill and his cane visited Dani, and after it took him a few tries to get to the point of why he was there, he did it. He apologized for being the one to go through the motions in his marriage. He said he was sorry for gaslighting Dani and not seeing her pain. And he seemed sincere about everything.
He doesn’t want a reunion — he has made his choices and he chooses Hayley. But he was sorry for the way he destroyed their family and, more importantly, for how he destroyed it. The disrespect, the disloyalty, the cheating, everything.
And the way Dani looked, relieved to finally hear the words. She knows she didn’t handle his departure from their decades-long existence very well, but how could she when she didn’t want their life to end? Bill said he made assumptions about her and their life to make him feel better and validated about his destructive choices.
It’s scenes like these that remind us how these two were a viable couple for a long time. Bill even said something about taking Dani’s youth. He was thorough in his apology. Hopefully, these two will remember this conversation in their future interactions.

Two Lies and a Truth for Ted
Ted’s first whopper of a lie had an impact on Tuesday’s episode when he showed up to the country club for dinner with Eva (Ambyr Michelle). Kat (Colby Muhammad) was there, waiting for Tomas (Alex Alegria). Even though he tried to get his daughters to see each other and get along, he has to realize that that won’t happen anytime soon.
Ted’s second whopper of a lie dissolved before his very eyes when he showed up to the Martin Mystery Mega-Summit at Bill’s law office. It turned out that Ted (Keith D. Robinson) had known about his son’s secret from the very beginning. He may have had a peripheral role in cleaning up the mess, but he knows the particulars. And that is shocking.
This development is interesting because when Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) finds out, there’s no way she will accept that he was carrying two massive lies — one long-term and one short-term.

But Ted insisted he wanted in on this second clean-up job. He was there in the office with Bill, Martin, Marcel (Darryl W. Handy), Elon (Malachi Malik), Vernon (Clifton Davis), and Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom). Ted recognized “Kenneth” (Jason Vendryes) at the country club, so he knows that this is going to have to happen now. Wait until this Rat Pack/Ocean’s 11 group finds out about how close Smitty (Mike Manning) and Jacob (Jibre Hordges) are to connecting the dots.
Thanks to Smitty, they are beginning to think that Martin’s nightmare is directly related to Detective Malone, as well as something that happened two years ago. And we even saw our first clear glimpse of the fallout from that night. Martin arrived home and had noticeably changed clothes. He looked wrecked.
This secret is coming out. It’s happening, and we can’t wait to see where this goes.
