Apparently, something was in the water at Fairmont Crest because everybody was cruising for a conflict in the Tuesday, March 25 episode of Beyond the Gates. From the top down.

No More Family Drama…Said No One Ever

Conflict #1: Anita and Vernon Dupree versus Congressman Martin Richardson

Vernon (Clifton Davis) told his wife Martin’s news. That Martin (Brandon Claybon) had POTUS goals. Immediately, Anita’s (Tamara Tunie) vibe changed. Whatever Martin’s secret is? Vernon claimed it was explosive. It was scary enough of a prospect for the grandparents to summon their grandson to the club for breakfast. Martin didn’t submit or give up his need to run for the presidency. Apparently, he seems to think he can keep his big secret on the down low. He left, saying he would continue to honor his grandparents. But he won’t listen to them. When he’s president, there’s a spot for them in the Lincoln bedroom. Wow.

Conflict #2: Congressman Martin Richardson versus Husband Bradley “Smitty” Smith

At the club, Smitty (Mike Manning) overheard his husband talking about wanting to run for president. Martin never revealed this to Smitty. Smitty was clearly upset because this was the first he had heard about it. He didn’t like that Martin kept shutting him down about going back to work when he was harboring his own grand ambitions. Also, running for president will change a family forever.

Conflict #3: Dani Dupree Hamilton versus Chelsea Hamilton

This mother-and-daughter showdown has been brewing since day one. It hasn’t completely erupted yet, but it’s about to. At the end of the episode, Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) finally told Dani (Karla Mosley) that she wanted to quit modeling. Now, she has to tell her mom why she quit the profession that made her mother famous. Chelsea wants to be a designer, and on top of that, she wants to do it on her own. Dani will have to accept that, but we all know it takes a while for her to get used to change. Right now, Dani’s in a precarious position. Her Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) and Hayley (Marquita Goings) meltdown has waned, but she’s clearly struggling with alcohol. Something like Chelsea’s news could push her over the top.

Conflict #4: Bill Hamilton versus Naomi Hamilton

While Dani and Chelsea’s debate and potential disagreement were just warming up, things were kind of cold between father-and-daughter attorneys Bill and Naomi (Arielle Prepetit). Bill’s thoughts were on how distant he was from his daughters, especially Naomi. He sent her a text saying he loved her, hoping it would thaw things between them. But Naomi had a different surprise for him. She is now representing the three women who wanted to sue his law firm for a hostile workplace environment and sexual harassment against Mike Davis (Pierce Lackey). Naomi watched as someone served Bill. He thought Naomi wanted to reconcile. Instead, she decided to start a war.
