Kat didn’t particularly like the fact that Tomas basically called her a mean girl to her face. Andre didn’t appreciate learning how Ashley proposed to Derek, and now the two are engaged. Kat and Andre both reacted to their situations during the Wednesday, September 17 episode of Beyond the Gates. Which reaction was more disappointing?

Kat’s Mea Culpa

First, it was hard to accept that Tomas (Alex Alegria) called Kat (Colby Muhammad) a mean girl when he repeatedly ratted her out behind her back to Eva (Ambyr Michelle), her fiercest rival. Of course, Kat has no idea how many times he has told Eva something unflattering about his girlfriend. It’s rampant and wrong, and it needs to stop.

Yes, Kat can be harsh and condescending, but Eva and her mother really did destroy her family. Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) and Ted (Keith D. Robinson) are not going to get back together anytime soon, especially now that Ted got into bed with Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant). But Tomas’s gaslighting ways have Kat thinking that there’s something wrong with her. And that’s not cool.

Kat apologized to Tomas and suggested they start a new chapter without her toxicity and remember the sparks they used to have.

Andre’s Overcompensation

Ashley (Jen Jacob) summoned Andre (Sean Freeman) to the hospital, where she told him that she had asked Derek (Ben Gavin) to marry her, and he said yes. This was quite the shock to Andre’s system. Even though things had cooled between them, he still carried a torch for her.

In Derek’s hospital room, Andre didn’t just have to endure the injured first responder smugly talking about marrying Ashley. Andre had to suggest they honeymoon in Paris. Of course, Paris is Ashley and Andre’s thing, but he had to prove he was happy for Ashley. He promised he would.

Later, he and Dani (Karla Mosley) commiserated at the bar in the Fairmont Crest Country Club. He’s pretty down about the whole thing. But, honestly, Dani’s right there. Things should be looking up. She even told him Ashley wasn’t the right girl for him. He should listen to her.

Which Scenario Is More Disappointing?

While both scenarios are disappointing, Kat’s apology to Tomas gets the edge here. She’s down on herself for not being the woman Tomas thinks she should be. She needs to forget about whatever notions Tomas has about her and concentrate on being herself.

The only chapter she should think about is one that involves her walking away from Tomas. He has eyes on her half-sister at the same time that he’s dating her, and that’s unacceptable.
