There were several great conversations in the Wednesday, October 29, episode of Beyond the Gates. Izaiah called on his new “buddy,” Eva, to help him organize his thoughts about his dad and his newly ended relationship with Yolanda. Martin and Smitty caught their 16-year-old daughter, Samantha, in the act of making out on the couch with Nathan.
A non-judgmental Dani listened to Vanessa’s perspective about her relationship with Joey Armstrong. Nicole handed Carlton a sweet rejection that put a pause on their budding romance. And Elon and Joey hashed out the Marcel Malone of it all. A theme emerged, and it had to do with timing.
Key Takeaways
- Nicole presses pause: She gently tells Carlton she’s not ready for romance, proving sometimes the healthiest move is taking a breather.
- Dani and Vanessa connect: A heartfelt talk turns judgment into understanding as Dani shows real care for her friend’s choices.
- Elon vs. Joey: Two powerful men square off over Detective Marcel Malone’s fate.
- Izaiah and Eva bond: Shared family struggles lead to surprising chemistry, but timing could make or break what’s next.
- Parent panic: Martin and Smitty walk in on Samantha’s couch make-out session — and the fallout is anything but quiet.
Nicole & Carlton
Tuesday’s showdown pitting Ted (Keith D. Robinson) against Carlton (Robert Christopher Riley) got Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) thinking. And she decided that she wasn’t ready to start seeing anyone, let alone Carlton. Plus, she had to be thinking that Carlton isn’t just a fun, casual hang. He is somebody you get serious with. So she let him down gently and told him that this was a pause, not a permanent cancellation.
It was actually a refreshing decision. So many characters on soaps float from one relationship to another, and they don’t let themselves stop and process the one that just ended. Sometimes that breather is necessary to enable healing. True closure is important, and Nicole is going to allow herself to experience it. So, unfortunately for Carlton, he will have to wait. Timing is everything.
Dani & Vanessa
At first, it seemed as though Dani (Karla Mosley was judging Vanessa’s newly formed relationship with Joey (Jon Lindstrom). In the end, he conveyed she wasn’t. Her goal is to ensure Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) is protected and that Joey knows she has people who care for her. And that he can’t take advantage of her. It took Vanessa a minute to get where Dani was coming from.
But in the end, she was able to open up to Dani and share her perspective. And while her relationships with Doug (Jason Graham) and Joey seriously overlapped, she claims she doesn’t want to slide into another marriage after her union with Doug just ended. And that’s refreshing if it turns out to be true.
Elon & Joey

Elon (Malachi Malik) and Joey, two alpha males, confronted each other about their shady alliances in the casino. They each vied for dominance as they talked about the Detective Marcel Malone (Darryl W. Handy) factor. Here’s where the timing comes in. Elon was super happy that Marcel was on the retirement track. He wants that bad seed out of the force.

Meanwhile, Joey wants Marcel to stay a cop as long as he can. Because that is his in to the department. Marcel is very good for his business, and he doesn’t want that to change. He knows he should groom a younger version, but finding that person is proving to be difficult. After Joey played the Dupree card and reminded Elon of the family’s entanglement in some shady DMV events, Elon realized he couldn’t win. Marcel stays put…for now.
Izaiah & Eva
At Uptown, Izaiah (David Lami Friebe) needed a buddy, so he called Eva (Ambyr Michelle), who quickly joined him. She noticed he was brooding at the bar and managed to get him to open up. Izaiah was feeling a type of way about his dad and his now ex-girlfriend, Yolanda.
The two had something in common, and that was their parents. They both love their mother and father, respectively. They discussed how they’re viewing their parents differently as adults. As much as Eva worshiped Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) growing up, she sees her mom for who she is not and wants to live her life differently. Meanwhile, Izaiah is getting a new perspective on his dad now that he sees Jacob (Jibre Hordges) no longer drinking his dad’s Kool-Aid.
Ultimately, Eva perked up to hear that Izaiah is no longer attached. But the timing is everything. She’s not about to be a rebound girl, and he still needs to process the end of his relationship. Plus, he’s still unsure whether he will take the Banneker job. Something tells us he will.
Martin & Smitty & Samantha
Martin (Brandon Claybon) and Smitty (Mike Manning) feel that the waiting game needs to work for Samantha (Najah Jackson). She’s only 16 and not ready to be doing what she was doing with Nathan (Brennen Settle) on the couch. Martin yelled and ordered Nathan to stay away from Samantha. And, for once, he and Smitty were on the same page. It didn’t help that they found Nathan’s condom on the floor in front of the couch.
However, a grounded Samantha fought back with attitude and determination to see Nathan again. Her parents’ scolding and punishment didn’t stop her from reaching out to Nathan again. Tyrell (Jaden Lucas Miller) telling his sister what Nathan was like in the locker room setting didn’t stop her either. She wants to talk to him, she texted from her brother’s phone. Let’s hope that’s all she wants to do is talk.
