It’s one of those soap tropes that just about every daytime drama tries at one point or another. And something tells us that this is where the show is headed. Although knowing the powers that be behind Beyond the Gates, they’ll put their own magical spin on it. In the Thursday, October 2 episode, it felt like it could be the beginning of some serious baby drama.
Dani Nails Hayley’s Essence
Dani (Karla Mosley) and Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) had a wonderful conversation like only they can have. It was deep, biting, flirty, and they even had their Sam-and-Diane-Cheers moment. It was that moment when they alternated insults with each other, and it ended up in a scorching kiss. Only Bill was the one to go in for the kiss (which was a little surprising).
But the best part of their weighty chat was when Dani unloaded truths onto Bill. The truth was that he needed to open his eyes to his child bride and no longer underestimate her. Because she’s shady, but he doesn’t see it because he’s blinded by what he thinks is love.
It’s important to lay out the entirety of that part of the scene because something tells us that we’ll be looking back at this loaded conversation down the line. Dani is beyond observant, and she has Hayley’s ticket. But she can’t do anything about it, or her family and the world will think she’s some scorned woman desperately taking her pain out on another woman.
Dani: That woman played us, Bill. You, me, and Naomi. You may have a blind spot for her, but that doesn’t I have to close my eyes.
Bill: Hey, look, okay. Hayley is young and might be a little insecure.
Dani: Or is she pretending to be because she knows how protective you are? How far you’ll go to make her happy? But don’t be fooled, Bill. She’s weaponizing that sweetness!
Bill: You’re reading her wrong.
Dani: You’ve seen it. You’ve clocked it. She has this fascinating way of being so junior and uncultured while being so fantastically busy. She’s like this beautiful black swan just gliding in the surface. So serene and distracting. But what you don’t see right under the surface, those little flippers paddling so fast, working so hard, doing the most to make it seem like she’s doing nothing at all.
A Desperate Hayley
Early in the episode, an upset Hayley (Marquita Goings) expressed her anger with Bill after he discovered that Caroline (Ellie Wang) was researching Dani’s marriage to Andre (Sean Freeman). She looked done with Bill and Dani’s closeness during Chelsea’s abduction. She knows that her husband still has feelings for his ex-wife. And it seemed like she didn’t know what it would take to sever the bond between Bill and Dani for good.
Cut to near the end of the episode, and Bill and Hayley are at home. And Hayley is no longer upset. She is disappointed, however, because she took a pregnancy test and it was negative. Here’s what she tells Bill:
Hayley: I know how much it means to you to start this family. Your best family. And I can’t wait to give that to you. I promise, I am going to make you a father again, very soon.
First of all, what happened to her being angry with Bill? All of a sudden, that’s gone, and she’s playing the baby card again. And she’s already thinking of ways to make this happen, isn’t she? She will think outside the box.
Naomi’s News
At the end of the scene between Bill and Hayley, the action cut to Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) and Jacob (Jibre Hordges). Jacob just got home, and Naomi had some news for him. She’s pregnant.
This comes as a surprise, considering Naomi has previously expressed that she and Jacob made the decision not to have any children. While this baby news will likely be a source of conflict for the couple, it might also mark the beginning of something else.
We’ll see what happens when Hayley finds out that Naomi — Bill’s daughter and her former bestie — is having a baby. We’ll see how her behavior changes then. Until then, we have our eye on Hayley.
