Every day, we’re learning more and more about the world of Fairmont Crest and its inhabitants. During the Wednesday, March 5 episode of Beyond the Gates, we found out who the gambler was and how he’ll no doubt tie into the arrival of Jon Lindstrom’s new character on the scene.

What We Learned

#1: Mona is a true-crime buff. Mona (Karan Kendrick) seems like good people. She’s worried about Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) and Dani (Karla Mosley), and it seems like she’ll protect them at all costs. Since we discovered that she is a true crime buff, it would be great to see her be the one to discover Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) was behind Laura’s (Destiny Love) motorcycle hit-and-run. However, we would then have to be worried about her safety, as Leslie is no joke.

#2: Eva suspected her mom of the hit-and-run. So now we know that in the back of her mind, Eva (Ambyr Michelle) suspected her mom of the hit-and-run. Enough to ask her about it. So, at the very least, she is aware her mom could go to some dark and dangerous places in her mind.

#3: Doug McBride is the out-of-control gambler. For a time, we suspected Martin (Brandon Claybon) was the gambler. But now we know it’s Vanessa’s husband, Doug (Jason Graham), the cardiac surgeon. He already seems far gone and on the road to nowhere good. He will undoubtedly have a face-to-face with Jon Lindstrom’s casino owner, Joey Armstrong. In the show’s weekly video preview, it’s most likely Doug in the car with Joey.

#4: Vanessa comes from a rich family. Doug’s friend Randy (Maurice P. Kerry) talked about Doug asking Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) for money to cover his losses, but he doesn’t seem to want to go that route. We also found out that she and Doug have at least one kid. We need to learn more about Vanessa and Doug’s marriage.

#5: Smitty is proactive about finding a purpose. Clearly, Martin’s husband, Smitty (Mike Manning), feels lonely. After all, Martin, the congressman, is busy. Their teens are always out, and we haven’t even met them yet. Smitty wants to return to reporting. He consulted his mother-in-law about his thoughts, but he hasn’t told his husband yet.

#6: Martin wants to run for president. Smitty better work fast to secure that new purpose. Because if Martin truly wants to run for POTUS, then Smitty better be ready to turn his life over to his husband’s campaign.

#7: Kat and Eva will be rivals. These two didn’t get off on a good foot at all. When the forgotten daughter met the daughter Ted (Maurice Johnson) actually raised, it became clear that Eva and Kat (Colby Muhammad) wouldn’t get along any time soon. Hopefully, Kat doesn’t listen to her mom but keeps an eye on Eva.

#8: Eavesdropping is an art these characters will rely on. Both Eva and Martin eavesdropped and gained some important intel. These BTG characters will acquire valuable information by hook or crook. Good to know.

#9 Jacob can stop worrying that he dropped the ball at Dani’s wedding. We met Jacob’s father, the chief of Police, who spelled it out for his son. He did what he had to do to protect his family. So that is that. Will Jacob (Jibre Hordges) be okay with that?
