In the Monday, July 21 episode of Beyond the Gates, Nicole and Ted’s relationship is rockier than ever. And an old argument rears its ugly head when Jacob and Naomi go toe-to-toe. Will their marriage hit major turbulence because of Martin’s recent revelation?
Nicole (Mostly) In the Loop
Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) is beyond dealing with all the lies that Ted (Keith D. Robinson) has kept. It now has her wondering who she was married to for so long. It also has shaken her confidence in herself. Her psychiatrist ego can’t help but wonder why so many felt the need to protect her and keep these things from her.
She fancies herself as someone who helps heal people. Maybe she wouldn’t have had the reaction her parents thought she would have if she had just been told. It’s a lot like Smitty (Mike Manning). Except we know Smitty wouldn’t have been able to keep a lid on Martin accidentally murdering the racist brother in self-defense. He wouldn’t have wanted his husband to take his chances with the law and the order.
The Duprees felt there were too many variables that could have gone wrong had Martin gone through the proper channels. But really, what those lies did was deprive Nicole of being there for her son. She feels she could have helped him navigate his way through the extreme trauma that he experienced. That is her specialty, after all.
While she can help Martin now, she knows that he needed her then. She can’t forgive Ted for this. She can’t forgive him for taking their son with him when he met up with that “basketcase,” aka Leslie Thomas. He lied to Nicole for 25 years about his affair and the fact that he got her pregnant. And now she says she will take the next steps, which could be divorce.
And now here they go again. Bill told Ted about Kenneth dying. Nicole doesn’t know that part. We’ll see if Martin fills her in. If not, she’s out of the loop, once again.

Family First
Remember when Jacob (Jibre Hordges) arrested Dani (Karla Mosley) even though she was his mother-in-law? And Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) wanted him to stay out of it and let some other cop handle it? Well, the argument they’re currently having is similar, but potentially a whole lot more destructive.
It feels like Jacob has a chip on his shoulder, and it’s something that needs to be explored. He’s a member of the Dupree family by marriage, but he doesn’t always seem as connected to them as he should be. As a cop, he’s by the book, and a lot of times the Duprees are not by the book. Unless they can BUY the book or they WROTE the book, that is.
Jacob also has high standards when it comes to justice. He’s black and white and doesn’t live in the shades of gray. Meanwhile, Naomi is all about loyalty to the Duprees, and if her cousin did commit a crime, she would probably keep quiet or want someone other than her husband to bring her family down. And Jacob just doesn’t get that.

Jacob knows that something shady and possibly criminal is going on with Martin, and Smitty is suddenly tight-lipped about it. And he’s frustrated that Smitty isn’t giving up anything. Plus, he realizes it may involve his father, too. Naomi thinks he just needs to let Elon (Malachi Malik) and Malone (Darryl W. Handy) handle it.
But Jacob is like a dog with a bone. He wants to find out himself. And he isn’t going to let up until he discovers the truth. And when he finds it, he may have a big decision to make. His badge or his marriage.
