The nominations for the NAACP Image Awards are in, and CBS’s Beyond the Gates scored big with two major nods. The celebration didn’t stop there — Michael B. Jordan, an All My Children alum, dominated the movie field thanks to his blockbuster hit Sinners, earning multiple nominations and landing a coveted spot as a finalist for Entertainer of the Year.

Key Takeaways

  • Beyond the Gates earns two NAACP Image Award nominations in its debut year.
  • Michael B. Jordan dominates with Sinners, including an Entertainer of the Year finalist spot.
  • Cast and crew celebrate a major milestone for daytime and beyond.

BTG Earns Two Nods Out of the Gate

BTG receives this recognition during its very first year of existence. It is nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. Its streaming competition is fierce and includes Peacock’s Bel-Air, Netflix’s Forever, Hulu’s Paradise, and Reasonable Doubt.

The rookie soap also received an Outstanding Hair Styling nomination. This is an impressive feat considering the category includes TV and Film projects. BTG’s Wankala L. Hinkson shares the category with hair stylists from Reasonable Doubt, Bel-Air, Sinners, and Hulu’s All’s Fair, the Ryan Murphy production starring Kim Kardashian, Niecy Nash, Glenn Close, and Sarah Paulson.

BTG cast and crew reacted to the news. Tamara Tunie (Anita) said she was “grateful.” Timon Kyle Durrett posted that “it’s an honor to be a part of this journey. LET’S GOOOO!”

Hinkson shouted out her hair team, saying, “Thank you to my amazing hair team behind all of the beautiful looks! You all are truly talented, and work so hard! I couldn’t do this without y’all!! We are celebrating us today! Let’s Gooooo! 💙”

Sinners Is Golden

Former soap star Michael B. Jordan’s vampire drama took a major bite out of the movie categories. Sinners earned 18 nominations, including Outstanding Motion Picture and Outstanding Ensemble Cast. Individually, Jordan received nominations for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture and Entertainer of the Year.

Jordan plays twins in the movie, which is currently available for streaming on HBO Max.

The NAACP Image Awards

The 57th NAACP Image Awards are set to air live on Saturday, February 28, on BET and simulcast on CBS at 8:00 PM ET and PT. The ceremony celebrates the best in Black excellence — in the worlds of music, movies, television, and beyond.
