Beyond The Gates star Mike Manning recently headed back to Los Angeles to attend the Human Rights Campaign gala, and he had nothing but love for the LGBTQ+ organization.
Full Circle Moment
Manning took to Instagram to pen what he called a “love letter” to the Human Rights Campaign, an organization that has been a part of his journey from the start.
“The HRC LA Dinner truly felt like a homecoming. For those who have been following my career since the beginning, the @humanrightscampaign holds a special place in my heart, helping me face myself as a scared youth on @mtv.”
Manning refers to his time on MTV’s The Real World: D.C. when, in 2010, the openly bisexual actor lobbied Congress on behalf of the Human Rights Campaign.
“Now, 15 years later, the man who stands before you had grown, changed, become comfortable in his own skin, and emboldened to use his capabilities for good,” Manning continued in the caption.
Manning is known for his role of LGBTQ character Caleb on The Bay, and most recently stars as BTG’s Smitty, who is currently in a bit of a situationship marriage with Martin (Brandon Claybon).
The actor including a string of photos from the HRC gala, starting with a snap of his husband Nick, along with photos from the night of queer celebs like David Archuleta, Kevin McHale, and Janelle Monáe.

“HRC is the largest #LGBTQ+ civil rights organization in the United States. Because of them, so many have more rights, visibility, opportunity, and power than they would have without HRC’s important work. This is my love letter to HRC.,” Manning concluded the post.
One commenter noted the significance of Manning’s attendance to the gala. “Full circle moment,” they wrote along with hand heart emojis, while another wrote, “I still remember when you first joined HRC on The Real World! It’s awesome to see how far you’ve come since then!”
