Late last week, Beyond the Gates fans were shocked when a Deadline article announced the groundbreaking soap’s very first recast: Maurice Johnson was out as Dr. Ted Richardson. The role had already been recast with American DreamsA Million Little Things, and Dreamgirls star Keith D. Robinson. And now, the actor who originated the pivotal character recently posted an update.

Maurice Johnson Update

On Monday, Maurice Johnson took to social media to speak to his fans and followers. Along with his message, he attached a couple of photos, including a shirtless image. “Sorry #BeyondTheGates fans. You’ll have about 30+ more episodes to see if Dr. Ted ever goes shirtless 😜 I’ll be back on your screen on Thursday! Thanks for the love and blowing the internet up over the weekend about ya boy! #MauriceJohnson#TeamTed#AnnouncementSoon

Johnson noted that there are only 30-plus chances to see him on BTG until Keith D. Robinson takes over in May. In that time, he could very well play out some very dramatic moments, including the one that will inevitably go down between Ted and his wife, Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix), when she finds out about his affair with Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) and subsequent long-lost daughter, Eva (Ambyr Michelle), who has been working as Nicole’s assistant.

The actor isn’t joking about the support fans have shown him since the recast news broke. A slew of BTG viewers have shared their love for the actor and his often turtlenecked character. The responses to his update revealed more of the same sentiments. One fan shared their sadness over this impending change. “I just can’t handle this!! 🥺🥺🥺🥺.”

Meanwhile, another had a lot to say. “I’m still in shock but I hope this means that a better opportunity has come your way. #BeyondTheGates #BTG is the first soap opera that I’ve been compelled to watch in years. In addition to your excellent portrayal of “Ted”, I’ll miss how engaged you are w/us on social media.”

“Knowing we get 30+ more eps is comforting, but still…I’m in my feelings! 🥺,” said yet another BTG faithful. “We wanted to see #TurtleneckTed on our screens every day 😩😤.”

Johnson’s post on X, formerly Twitter, also featured a mysterious #AnnouncementSoon hashtag in addition to his #MauriceJohnson and #TeamTed hashtags. Does the actor already have something new lined up?
