The Beyond the Gates recap for Thursday, March 27, sees the battle lines drawn for Hayley and Naomi. Kat engineers what could turn out to be a gotcha moment for Eva. Leslie sports another disguise to get close to Kat. Smitty reacts to Martin’s latest act of control. And Jacob deals with a kinder, gentler Marcel. And Nicole, the psychiatrist, is in session with her sister Dani.
What happened on Beyond the Gates?
Hayley (Marquita Goings) and Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) finally sat down for a conversation that actually turned into more of a showdown. She assumed Naomi was going after her dad because of Hayley’s betrayal. However, Hayley doesn’t see what she did as betrayal at all. She insisted she genuinely fell in love with Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett). Hayley also insisted that the friendship that they once had was real. It wasn’t what Naomi was making it out to seem. She didn’t use her at all.
Hayley called Naomi’s lawsuit frivolous. She claimed she had never had trouble with Mike Davis (Pierce Lackey). Naomi wasn’t surprised, considering Hayley was sleeping with the boss. Ultimately, Hayley told her ex-bestie that the gloves were off and she would do everything she could to help Bill defeat Naomi. Meanwhile, Naomi tried to get Hayley to see that these women’s perspectives were valid. In fact, Hayley ended up getting the promotion one of the women was vying for. Unlike Hayley, Naomi said she supported women, and she wasn’t about to call an end to this lawsuit anytime soon.

Secrets Between Husbands
Smitty (Mike Manning) demanded that Martin (Brendan Claybon) tell him why he turned down a credible lead for the investigative reporter gig. He knew Smitty wanted to get back into the game. And then, on top of that, he hid it from him. He told his friend that his schedule had suddenly opened up, but he had to discuss it with his husband and would get back to him.
This wasn’t the first secret that Martin kept from Smitty. He didn’t confide in his significant other about wanting to run for president either. Smitty didn’t clue Martin in on wanting to go back to work. Instead, he put feelers out. They decided that they would stop with the secrets. However, Shmitty said that pertained to future secrets. He pointedly asked Martin if there were any current secrets he was keeping. Martin told him there weren’t, which was a lie.
Later, at home, Samantha (Najah Jackson) was cagey when her dads asked her about Tyrell (Jaden Lucas Miller). When Tyrell came down the stairs, it was clear he had gotten into some sort of fight.
Kat’s Gotcha Trap
Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) and Eva (Ambyr Michelle) commiserated about their plan. Leslie decided that the best course of action was to put her affair with Ted on blast at Ted (Maurice Johnson) and Nicole’s (Daphnée Duplaix) upcoming anniversary party. Once again, Eva suggested that they change the plan and confront the doctor in private. Leslie didn’t go for that option. As far as she was concerned, the more public, the better.
Meanwhile, Kat (Colby Muhammad) hatched her own scheme. She set up some sort of mini-webcam in Nicole’s home office, hoping to catch Eva in the act of…something. She then engineered an excuse to get Eva to head over to Nicole’s to shut down her mom’s hospital computer. There, she ran into Ted. She talked about Kat with him, and he tried to make her understand who his daughter was.
At Uptown, Leslie donned a disguise and named herself “Ana” to talk to Kat about Eva and Kat’s dynamic. She tried to get Kat to see that Eva was no threat, but Kat’s mind couldn’t be changed. Leslie already thought Kat was spoiled, and this conversation wouldn’t change her mind. Ted arrived during their conversation and spied on them from afar. After “Ana” left, Ted confronted Leslie outside.
A Kinder, Gentler Marcel
At the police precinct, Marcel (Darryl W. Handy) brought Jacob (Jibre Hordges) coffee, and instantly, the rookie detective wondered what was up. Marcel was trying too hard to be nice. He even advised his newbie partner to be better than him. And that made Jacob suspicious.
Nothing Marcel said would stop Jacob from feeling the way he was feeling. Later, he talked to his dad about it and accused the Chief of asking Marcel to take it easy on Jacob. Jacob told his dad that he could fight his own battles. Elon (Malachi Malik) urged his son not to fight this one. If he continued to push it, he would give his son a new partner.

A Quality Sister Session
Finally, Nicole checked on her sister, who was reeling from Chelsea’s (RhonniRose Mantilla) decision to quit modeling. Dani (Karla Mosley), with a drink in hand, thought about her life with Bill. She tried to think about a life without Bill, but ultimately, it was like she was addicted to Bill. Dani couldn’t deny it. Nicole suggested finding someone new. And while Dani said she was taken care of short-term, she didn’t want anybody else but Bill. It was always Bill.

Nicole temporarily acted as Dani’s psychiatrist of sorts. She asked questions that she hoped her sister would answer truthfully. Dani admitted that with Bill, she never thought about the bad times. Nicole diagnosed Dani with selective amnesia. Bill screwed Hayley and threw her in Dani’s face. Would she want to be with Bill after all of that? Dani said yes. She didn’t think she’d ever get over Bill, and that fact made both sisters sad.
