Lots of moves and mysteries made Monday’s June 16 episode of Beyond the Gates intriguing. The creepster busboy shook Martin so hard that the congressman confronted him at the end of the hour. Madison was the one to make the big move on Chelsea. Vanessa’s proposition stunned Joey Armstrong. And Smitty may find himself in some deep danger after his interview with Marcel Malone. Also, Derek’s big move went bust.
Vanessa Makes Power Move
Honestly, Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) didn’t know what hit him. Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) turned the tables, and she was the one who drove the conversation and the subsequent negotiation. She’s all about letting Joey launder his money using her real estate agency. She said that he didn’t need to go through all of the energy and effort it took to send Doug (Jason Graham) into a quarter-million-dollar debt.
He just needed to ask her, and now that all the cards were on the table, so to speak, she wants a partnership. And she’s naming the terms of their deal. Obviously, they’ll get to sleep together. On top of that, he will have to forgive Doug’s debt and pay him commission for his trouble, to the tune of six percent. Her commission will be 12 percent. Plus, she’s the one who picks the properties they go after.
Joey was impressed with Vanessa, and as much as he thinks he can successfully read people and get them to bend to his ways, that’s not how it will go with Vanessa.

Madison Makes Romantic Move
There’s something a little sus about Madison (Kenjah). She’s gorgeous and smart and seemingly leads the perfect life of a neurologist who works hard for a living. But she’s raising our suspicions.
Why does she know so much about Chelsea’s social media life? It shouldn’t be weird; it should be normal because Chelsea was a supermodel with a thriving IG life. But Madison was so mysterious when they first met at Uptown. As much as we hope this will be a good, solid relationship for Chelsea, we have concerns.
However, it was a little surprising that Madison was the one to make the first move. Let’s hope we have nothing to worry about and she is legit. Chelsea deserves happiness!

Smitty Makes a Jounalistic Move
Yeah, Smitty (Mike Manning) did not sign up to do a fluffy PR-friendly profile of the shady but legendary detective Marcel Malonel (Darryl W. Handy). Malone didn’t like Smitty’s pointed questions about his yacht and his ties to Joey Armstrong.
More and more, it’s looking like Marcel did have something to do with the night that Martin’s life went bonkers. And now he’s hiding this mystery from his family, including Smitty. Does the whole Martin (Brandon Claybon) mystery tie back to Joey, too?
Marcel didn’t appreciate Smitty’s line of questioning and trumped up an excuse to get the you-know-what out of there well short of the hour Smitty was supposed to get with the cop. If Smitty continues this way, he’s going to get in trouble. Because Marcel knows exactly who he is and his family is.

Derek Makes an Idiotic Move
A dumpster fire is exactly what we expected to happen once we realized Derek (Ben Gavin) would propose to Ashley (Jen Jacob). They couldn’t live together, so why would he propose to her? How does that solve their problems?
It doesn’t seem like there’s any going back for Ashley and Derek. He proposed, and she said not yet. He took the “not yet” as a “not ever,” and he got out of there. This could finally be the end of Ashley and Derek, a relationship that has been running on fumes since BTG began.
