There was a lot going on in the Wednesday, June 4 episode of Beyond the Gates. Chelsea met a mystery woman at Uptown. Leslie stayed busy attempting to do damage control. Anita told Vernon the truth about the fourth Articulette. Sharon gave her reasons for wanting to do the comeback concert. And Dani and Andre (sort of) defined their relationship, then Dani later visited an ailing Bill, who may have had a minor stroke.
Anita Comes Clean
Anita (Tamara Tunie) told Vernon (Clifton Davis) the truth about Barbara, the fourth Articulette. She died by suicide after getting kicked out of the group that she started. Unfortunately, that terrible Dante Green didn’t think she was polished enough to have the girl-next-door vibe. So even though she had a beautiful voice, she was kicked to the curb, and Anita, Sharon (Bonita Brisker), and Tracy (Maria Howell) didn’t do anything about it.
As expected, Vernon was comforting and realistic about what he learned. He admitted that what Anita did back then wasn’t great. But she was young, and any amount of suffering that she has inflicted on herself over the years won’t bring her back. But she wasn’t to blame for Barbara’s actions. Anita won’t believe that just yet.
At Orphey Gene’s, Sharon and Tracy had their own meeting of the minds. Sharon can’t get over the past either. She told Tracy that she wanted in on the comeback concert because she wanted her career back. And she wanted the chance to go solo. So she’ll fake making up with Anita, and then when they get up there on stage, they’ll leave Anita in their dust.
Not sure Sharon was really thinking that whole plan of hers. She’s under the impression that Anita is as selfish and calculating as she was back in the day. While she’s no pushover, she has experienced growth. She would want to give Sharon and Tracy that chance again. She wanted to make amends for the way she acted back in the day. Thankfully, Tracy expressed how she didn’t want to play the middleman. If they were going to do this, Sharon needed to be upfront about her intentions.

A Not So Clean BILL of Health
At the hospital, Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) was, as expected, a belligerent patient. He just wanted to go home, and Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) and Hayley (Marquita Goings) couldn’t get him to calm the you-know-what down. Thankfully, Dani (Karla Mosley), the Bill Whisperer, did just that when she got to the hospital. We’re thankful that Bill and Dani are no longer together. After all, he treated her horribly. But those two have chemistry, and their banter is on point. We know it, Naomi knows it, and even a jealous Hayley knows it.
This is another reason why it’s feeling increasingly like Hayley is faking the pregnancy to get Bill’s attention.

DAndre Status Check
Before Dani raced to the hospital, she and Andre (Sean Freeman) had mindblowing sex followed by a much-needed conversation where Andre got Dani to agree that they had moved on from friends with benefits. They still don’t know what to call it, so their euphemism of the day was that they transitioned from casual attire to business wear.
It might be frustrating for Dani, but she couldn’t deny that the two have been relying on each other for support and comfort in addition to said mindblowing sex. They are no longer casual.

Leslie’s Radar of Revenge
We’re adding some names to Leslie’s long list of people who need to watch out for her. So far, there is the entire Richardson family. Her anti-Kat (Colby Muhammad) vibe is growing, and Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges) may be on there unless she doesn’t want to risk going after an actual cop. Bill might be on that list, too, since he was the lawyer who got her out of town back then.
We’re not sure if her former friends Mona (Karan Kendrick) and Jan (Jerri Tubbs) would be on that list. But after today, you know who will be? Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) and Andre. Both of them were on to her, and when she tried to do damage control with them, they didn’t hold back. Shanice placed Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) at the hospital the night of Laura’s (Destiny Love) cardiac arrest, and Andre showed her the hospital’s security footage that he had in his possession. These two need to start watching their backs.
