In the January 9 episode of Beyond the Gates, Anita began her chemotherapy, while Nicole and Dani learned if they carried the BRCA gene. The results left the entire Dupree family with mixed feelings and more worried than before.
Key Takeaways
- Nicole tested negative for the BRCA gene.
- Dani wasn’t so lucky.
- The Dupree family rallies around Dani, Naomi, and Chelsea.
Here’s What Happened on BTG
The breast cancer storyline was front and center as everyone waited for news on Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) and Dani’s (Karla Mosley) BRCA gene test results. Even amid her chemotherapy treatment, Anita (Tamara Tunie) wanted updates on her daughters.
Nicole was with Martin (Brandon Claybon) and Smitty (Mike Manning) when the results came in. There was good news for Nicole as her results revealed she tested negative.
Unfortunately, the happiness didn’t last long. Nicole was on the phone with Dani when Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) informed her mom she tested positive for the BRCA gene.
It was a mixed bag of emotions as Vernon (Clifton Davis), Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla), and Kat (Colby Muhammad) learned the results of Dani and Nicole’s BRCA gene tests.
Why Dani and Nicole’s Test Results Matter
Anita’s cancer was just taken to a whole new level with Dani testing positive and the possibility that Chelsea or Naomi could have it too. The Dupree family has weathered many storms before, many of which they could control, but this one will be beyond their control.
Even though Naomi gave quite a pep talk to Dani, explaining that this could mean nothing, Dani’s world has been turned upside down again. The fact that she may pass this on to her daughters only added to her fear.
Nicole testing negative is a relief she won’t get to enjoy because of Dani, Chelsea, and Naomi. It’s a double-edged sword for Nicole, Martin, and Kate that will impact the family dynamic.
The Fallout
Chelsea and Naomi still have to get tested, and that’s going to throw Dani and Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) together even more. After all, Bill was the first person that Dani ran to when he found out about Anita’s diagnosis and that the girls could have the gene.
Spending more time together amid this family crisis will no doubt only make Bill and Dani grow closer. It will also not make Andre (Sean Freeman) and Hayley (Marquita Goings) very happy to see their spouses leaning on each other.
Nicole will do everything she can to be there for Dani. However, she also has to navigate being happy for herself while feeling guilty about her sister.
