In the Thursday, June 5 episode of Beyond the Gates, Sharon decided she wanted to be back on top, so she wanted the comeback concert to happen. Unfortunately for her, Anita decided to shut it down after Sharon’s tirade against her the previous day. Meanwhile, Kat “Nancy Drew” Richardson pressed Jacob for results. However, the police’s legal search of Leslie’s apartment turned up nothing. Ted and Nicole had an awkward but not totally awful run-in at Uptown. And Laura finally went back to work.
Eva Is (Sort Of) Unfulfilled
In a really nice conversation with Ted (Keith D. Robinson), Eva (Ambyr Michelle) admitted some things. Ted encouraged her to reach for the stars as to what she wanted for her future. She wanted to be working as Nicole’s assistant again or a job like that. Because she loved the challenge. She wanted to spend more quality time with her brother, Martin (Brandon Claybon), and his family. And even someday — and this was reaching — she wanted some sort of relationship with Kat (Colby Muhammad). That might have been for Ted’s benefit, however.
Laura Has a Rocky Start Back at Work
After weeks/months recuperating from the hit-and-run and then her cardiac arrest and infection, Laura (Destiny Love) returned to work. Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix), Mona (Karan Kendrick), and Kat were there to surprise her in the best way possible. She totally deserved that heartwarming welcome after what she had been through.
But when she got back to work, she immediately hit a roadblock with a new Notes program Eva had installed on her computer. She couldn’t figure it out and was practically on the verge of losing all the important data she needed to make Nicole’s work life a Febreze (sorry, just had to go there).
Laura clearly put extra pressure on herself to make the transition from Eva back to her seamless, yet the work gods didn’t cooperate. So she had to get resourceful and called on someone for help.

Nicole’s Assistants Converse
At Orphey Gene’s, it was a meeting of the temp and Nicole’s OG assistant. It was awkward, but it had to happen at some point. Eva did her best to put Laura at ease and apologized for what happened to her. She made sure to tell Laura that she didn’t do it. Laura knew that it was mostly Leslie’s fault.
Meanwhile, everybody is 100% sure Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) caused the chaos that hit Laura. Yet Leslie is still threatening everybody in the DMV to make it stop. Will it work?

Lots of Awkwardness
Laura and Eva had an unexpected interaction that happened quickly after Laura came back to work. It’s great how BTG doesn’t shy away from awkward conversations and meet-ups. Look at Thursday’s episode alone. Ted ran into Nicole at Uptown. He just kept talking while Nicole kept her walls up. Then Leslie joined the duo, which made it infinitely more awkward.
Kat refused to stay in her lane, which frustrated Jacob (Jibre Hordges). But in some small way, he had to appreciate what Kat was doing, right? He was well within his rights to tell her to leave the real dangerous investigating to the cops, but we know she won’t. That helmet and those gloves need to be found.
Finally, Anita (Tamara Tunie) had another confrontation with Sharon (Bonita Brisker), this time with Tracy (Maria Howell) part of the action. Once Sharon expressed interest in doing the concert, and after Sharon berated Anita again, Anita told her old friend what’s what. She told both Articulettes that she wasn’t the only selfish one back in the day. That all of them did their part in ostracizing Barbara. Kudos to Anita. And also, Vernon (Clifton Davis) is the best husband ever.
