Business talk and nostalgic reflections ruled the Friday, April 18 episode of Beyond the Gates. While Anita played the piano and waxed poetic about her Articulettes days to Naomi, others got down-and-dirty talking about business. Pamela brainstormed an idea that could give Dani new life. Chelsea and Kat debated a potentially controversial decision. Joey Armstrong revealed the truth about why he desperately wanted leverage over Doug.
Truths and Targets
Joey (Jon Lindstrom) sure is getting impatient with Dr. Doug McBride (Jason Graham), who’s doing whatever he can to prevent himself from heading back to Joey’s poker tables. He’s in deep and knows he needs to pay Joey back. But little does he know why Joey wants Dougie to owe him everything. He finally revealed it’s because he wanted Vanessa’s real estate firm — it’s the perfect setup to launder his shady money.
However, there has to be more to it. Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) from old money — while we haven’t met anybody from her family, it has been made clear that she’s the one with the money. Doug is a surgeon and gets paid well, but there’s no way he could come close to her family’s riches.
Joey’s membership application to the Fairmont Crest Community was rejected. Being with Vanessa and shoving Doug out of the way (by hook or by crook) could give him the legitimacy he desires.
Meanwhile, Vanessa told Nicole she’s attracted to Joey’s power and bad-boy qualities. Joey might get exactly what he wants because she gets this dreamy look every time she talks about him. Meanwhile, Doug is always too busy to spend time with her.

Second Act
Pamela (Cady McClain) has been determined to help Dani (Karla Mosley) find a new purpose. And she finally knows the ticket to Dani getting her groove back. She suggested they start a modeling agency. After all, Dani was a high-profile model and then managed her daughter, Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla), to high-profile status. And Pamela managed Dani’s rise to A-List supermodel back in the day.
Of course, they should start a modeling agency. Dani said she had to think about it. She might be about to realize that she’s a wanted woman.

First Act Trials
Chelsea and Kat’s business got off to a good start when they debuted their bag line at the recent fashion show. But they still have a lot to figure out, including the rollout of their activewear line of apparel. Kat (Colby Muhammad) — the business brain of the two — suggested they hire Dani as Chief of Marketing. This very idea triggered Chelsea something fierce.

All she could do was picture her mom being demanding, controlling, and critical. She didn’t want to go back to the times when Dani managed her career. She didn’t want to feel like a kid again. Kat reminded her that she was no kid; in fact, she was the boss of this operation, so things could be different. Chelsea said she had to process this potential hiring.
What did you think of the Joey, Vanessa, and Doug of it all? Could Chelsea be okay with hiring Dani? And is the modeling agency a good idea for Pamela and Dani? Let us know in the comments.
