Introducing Dr. Lia Whitmore on Beyond the Gates
In the sneak peek, Dr. Lia Whitmore (Specht) is not pleased that Garland Memorial appears to be a matchmaking service. After coming up on Ted (Keith D. Robinson) and Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) flirting while discussing Dani’s (Karla Mosley) modeling comeback, she calls Carlton (Robert Christopher Riley) to her side.
Exasperated because Lia always has something to say, Carlton asks her what she wants now. Her reply? She doesn’t have an issue with the love in the air at the hospital, but if it affects patient care, then she has a big problem, and so does he. By the looks of Carlton turning to Ted and Shanice, he’s going to have to be the one to tell them to stop fraternizing when there are patients to care for.

Lia Whitmore’s Storyline
While Lia’s debut sees her advocating for more attention to patient care, she’s about to have her own setback in that area. Though the doctor has been described as “brilliant and battle tested,” her confidence is said to be shaken by an incident that happens in the operating room. It’s the catalyst for a storyline that will pull her into the Duprees’ orbit in a terrible way, one that’s steeped in deceit.
How Lia disrupts the Duprees’ lives is still under wraps, but the family has a lot on its plate. Anita (Tamara Tunie) is on her chemotherapy journey. Dani is coming to terms with being a BRCA gene carrier and returning to the modeling spotlight. Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) is engaged to Madison (Kenjah), but she’s concerned her fiancée will come to regret walking away from the Copenhagen fellowship. Though it’s possible the good doctor staying in the DMV will prove to be exactly what the Duprees need to uncover Lia’s lies.
For someone who expects the best from Garland Memorial’s staff, it seems Lia won’t be living up to her own standards. BTG fans can be sure the soap’s big hospital story will have its share of twists and turns. Cecelia Specht will be on-screen as the shady Chief of Staff through Tuesday, May 26.
