In the Tuesday, July 22 episode of Beyond the Gates, Vernon plays peacemaker between Anita and the two other Articulettes. Meanwhile, Eva achieves vindication and makes Kat look bad. And then she scores another win when she and Tomas connect at Orphey Genes. Finally, who was on the other end of the phone talking to Hayley?
The Peacemaker
Vernon (Clifton Davis) put aside the turmoil and guilt he had been experiencing to play peacemaker and save the Articulettes’ comeback concert.
Sharon (Bonita Brisker) and Tracy (Maria Howell) showed up at Anita’s door wanting her to walk back her decision to leave Chicago and their rehearsals behind. Sharon and Tracy tried to briefly step up to Anita (Tamara Tunie) like they did in Chitown. It didn’t work with Anita. She was willing to walk away from the spotlight.
But Vernon played on their nostalgia, and how legendary and influential they were back in the day. And they even talked about the fourth Articulette, Barbara, who was responsible for their being a group. Ultimately, they decided to go full-steam ahead with the comeback concert and treat it as a true collaboration.
Let’s hope that from here on out, the path for this rebooted girl group is smooth and mostly drama-free.

Vindication and Revenge
The Eva (Ambyr Michelle) and Kat (Colby Muhammad) rivalry heated up. Eva scored a couple of wins, although she did a couple of super shady acts. Her mom would be proud of her, for sure.
She fixed the whole accreditation nightmare that Kat engineered and saved Ted’s (Keith D. Robinson) practice from having to pay a hefty fine. In the process, she threw Kat’s name under the bus with the accreditation company. But that wasn’t the shadiest act she committed.
First, she cloned Ted’s phone and sent Kat a text luring her to her dad’s hotel room so Kat would have a front-row seat to Eva’s genius moves. However, Eva didn’t throw Kat under the bus with Ted. She kept the fact that Kat was the one to sabotage her to herself.
Well, to herself, until she came clean to Tomas (Alex Alegria). Later, at Orphey Gene’s, she had no problem admitting Kat’s sabotage, and judgy Tomas wasn’t too happy with his girlfriend. Eva and Tomas ended up kissing right there at Orphey Gene’s counter. The least Tomas could do if he had such a problem with what Kat did was break up with her before kissing her half-sister.
It’s funny how he could judge Kat’s actions and then kiss the half-sister she despises. Hypocritical much?

Three Burning Questions
First, who did Hayley (Marquita Goings) turn to for help with that fake sonogram she suddenly showed Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett)?
Second, who was she talking to at the end of the episode? Are we thinking June (Jasmine Burke) or someone else? She wanted to know if that person was okay and if they needed anything.

Allison (Brianna Roberts) said that after her husband pushed her and she hit her head, she drove to Orphey Gene’s instead of Urgent Care or the ER because that’s where Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) was. How did she know Chelsea was there? Can she track Chelsea’s every move with her phone? We don’t blame Madison (Kenjah) for being on alert with Allison.
Finally, we’re still Team Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) and Derek (Ben Gavin), right? Ashley (Jen Jacob) and Derek didn’t work as a couple. We hope this is more than a casual thing for Derek and Shanice. They have potential.
