Beyond the Gates finally revealed some of June’s troubled backstory. In the Monday, July 28 episode, her sister Regina told the story of the kids in that old, mysterious photo.
Regina Shows Up
Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) apparently visited Regina (Jacinte Blankenship) and had an unsatisfying conversation with her (off-screen). But then Regina changed her mind and showed up at Orphey Gene’s, where Naomi does a lot of her work.
Regina eventually opened up to Naomi and Jacob (Jibre Hordges) once Naomi showed her the photo that June (Jasmine Burke) carries around with her at all times. It’s the mysterious image of the two kids that June refuses to talk about.

June Gloom
According to Regina, the kids in those pics were Ron and Cecille, June’s kids. But at some point, she admitted she could no longer do the motherhood thing.
A neighbor called Child Protective Services, and the kids were taken away. They were in the system, and this was all done without Regina’s knowledge and before she could do anything. It seems like the kids were adopted pretty quickly, and it was a closed adoption, meaning there was no way that Regina was going to be able to find them. And she had no idea who adopted them.
But she looked. Regina really loved those kids and would have taken them in just like that if she had had the chance. It was clear from the look on her face that she would take them in even now. As suspected, the kids were old enough to talk/babble a little when they entered the system — at least Ron was. Because he called Regina ‘Auntie GG.’ But, ultimately, June didn’t fight for her kids. Regina did more fighting for them than she did.

Tyrell and Samantha
So we’re all in agreement that June is Samantha (Najah Jackson) and Tyrell’s (Jaden Lucas Miller) biological mother, right? Regina mentioned that Ron would be picking out colleges soon. Tyrell is that age, and Samantha is not much younger than her brother.
From her perspective, Regina saw a sister who didn’t lift a finger to fight for her children. But everybody has a story and their own narrative, and with June suddenly showing up at Orphey Gene’s, it looks like maybe Regina will actually learn about June’s perspective.
