Beyond The Gates will have a new doctor-in-residence starting Friday, February 13. Michael Fairman reports Cecelia Specht is joining the cast in the role of Dr. Lia Whitmore, the Chief of Staff at Garland Memorial Hospital. But don’t expect her 20-episode run to be all sunshine and daisies. Dr. Whitmore’s choices are set to put the audience on edge.

Key Takeaways

  • Dr. Whitmore’s storyline on BTG.
  • Who will be mixed up in her mess?
  • How long Dr. Whitmore will be on the soap.

Who is Dr. Lia Whitmore on BTG?

BTG is in the middle of an emotional breast cancer story with Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie) and her family. Viewers know they’ll be in this storyline for some time, and it seems Dr. Whitmore may complicate it. She’s described as “brilliant and battle tested,” but she’s not infallible. An incident in the operating room changes the course of her life. Not only does it shake her confidence, but it also makes her question who she is and what she thought she stood for.

Honesty will not be a character trait associated with Dr. Whitmore. In an effort to hide what’s going on with her, she’ll weave a “web of deceit” that will pull the Dupree family in. They’ll be caught in it for a while. Reportedly, Cecelia Specht is set to be on BTG through Tuesday, May 26. That leaves plenty of room for all kinds of chaos to erupt at the hospital before anyone catches on.

Though much has been kept under wraps, Specht may have shared a behind-the-scenes look at her character back in January.

BTG Characters Likely to be in Dr. Whitmore’s Story

The Duprees are the only family named in the description of Whitmore’s arc, but we can likely expect the hospital staff closest to them to be involved, too.

Dr. Madison Montgomery (Kenjah) is a neurologist; she may cross paths with the “good” doctor. BTG’s nurses Ashley (Jen Jacob) and Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) could be aware of, or overhear, any issues with Whitmore that have been swept under the rug. There’s also Grayson Phillips (Jordi Vilasuso) to consider. He’s a lab technician. If something went wrong with one of the tests, he might just put on his detective hat and loop Ashley into his investigation.

With a healthy amount of BTG’s characters employed by Garland Memorial, Dr. Whitmore’s storyline could be the next ‘all-hands on deck’ plot for the soap opera.
