Are there any Queen Sugar fans out there? If you are, you need to know that the actor who played “Davis West” on the hit Oprah Winfrey Network drama has joined the upcoming daytime drama Beyond the Gates. In Queen Sugar, Timon Durrett played a pro-level basketball athlete. Davis played hard on and off the court, ultimately blowing up his family. So Durrett knows how to play the highs and lows of drama and deviousness. And he will bring it when BTG debuts in 2025.
The Chicago native traveled to Mississippi to attend Alcorn University, where the 6’5″ athlete played college basketball and earned a bachelor’s degree in communications in 1988.
When Alcorn University shined a spotlight on its esteemed alum, Durrett told them about what it was like being a student-athlete. “To some, you are a role model, and if you disappoint, there’s a lot of scrutiny,” he revealed. “Expectations can weigh you down, and if you’re not able to live up to them, people who don’t understand what it’s like to be in that position will scrutinize you.”
He must have channeled this mindset in some of the characters he has played over the years, including Queen Sugar‘s Davis West.

Back in 2004, Durrett guest-starred on The Young and the Restless, playing an orderly named Jim Edwards. “Doing that show was great,” he told Soap Opera Digest in 2017.
“It was done very differently than anything else I had ever done. I got to play an orderly, and I had to pretend like I was injected with this sedative [when Jim was overpowered by a hospital Kevin (Greg Rikaart) in order to escape.
Unfortunately, he never got to see his appearance because Breaking News preempted Y&R that day.

Before playing Davis on Queen Sugar beginning in 2016, Durrett appeared on top-notch broadcast shows like Girlfriends, CSI: Miami, Heroes, and Castle.
Since the Ava Duvernay series ended in 2021, he starred in the Cheaper by the Dozen remake that streams on Disney+. He reprised his QS character on a different OWN series, Cherish the Day. He was also one of the leads in the BET+ movie The Final Say.

The actor is set to play Bill Hamilton in BTG. He’s the ex-husband of Karla Mosley’s Dani Dupree and the father of Naomi and Chelsea.
Bill will one hundred percent cause drama because he’s an opportunist, publicity hound, and narcissist. Well, that’s Dani’s description of him, anyway. In addition, he’s a charismatic and calculated criminal defense attorney who is well-connected, well-received, and gets what he wants by any means necessary.
