Sean Freeman is sticking relatively close to home to star as Andre Hamilton, the nephew of Ted Richardson on CBS’s brand new soap opera, Beyond the Gates. The Alabama native is excited he secured a series regular role in the first Black American soap since NBC’s Generations did it back in the early ’90s. On social media, he’s devoted several posts to the beginning of what could only be described as a dream. Freeman is in Atlanta and he’s ready to make his mark on daytime.
The Early Days
Sean Freeman was born in Ozark, Alabama, but raised in Dothan. Freeman earned a bachelor’s degree in human services and a master’s degree in strategic communication from Troy University.
While his degrees fuel his entrepreneurial side, his love of performing arts started when he was a kid. In 2019, Freeman told VoyageATL that his mom had Sean and his siblings take part in Boys & Girls Club events. “It was there that I discovered my niche for the performing arts.”
After college, he did a brief but impactful stint at the New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts. “It totally changed my life,” he revealed to VoyageATL. “I’ve pursued acting professionally ever since, and I plan to do this on a major level until I’m old and grey.”

Soul Rebel
Freeman considers himself an artist, creative, and a soul rebel. He strives to “not only help self but to contribute to helping the world around me by using my artistry and influence.”
So when he’s not performing on the stage or in an independent film, writing a script, or losing himself in a recurring role on a streaming TV show, you might find him guest lecturing a college course.
The multi-talented actor/singer/dancer will most likely surprise you with his choices and motivations. In fact, he told the student newspaper at his alma mater that he wants to give people from where he is from “another example of what can be accomplished and achieved beyond sports or comedy,” Freeman said.
“For them to be like ‘Ah! We also have the arts, we have someone who looks like us who’s entering that business, too,’” he added.

New Experience: Soap Opera Actor
Freeman’s acting credits include Finding Happy, BET’s Tales, and a movie called Boxed In. But now he’s part of the Beyond the Gates experience. On the day CBS announced his casting, he posted the article on his Instagram account and wrote, “This is for my 80+ year old living grandma Susie🥹, who brought Me, P, Shug, Kayla, Deara, Macy, Stank, Tee, and Tug up on “The stories”. My prayer was always that she’d live long enough to see me work at this level, and apparently it was my Lord and savior’s will all along. Imagine that. To my GATES family, and to my awesome team at @stwtalent , let’s do this. @sheiladucks , @therealkimcoleman , @michelevaljean these are for you! 💐💐💐”
Look for Freeman’s character to be a playboy with a twist. Andre Hamilton is the sophisticated nephew of Ted Richardson (Maurice JohnsonI). Andre tragically lost his parents in a plane crash and inherited a double fortune, which allows him to live his bliss as a photographer. Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) stepped up for Andre when his parents died, and he depends on their support and wise counsel. And here’s the twist: “A playboy who is smooth on the surface, there is something elusive about Andre that occasionally makes people question his intentions.” Ruh roh.
How long will it be when fans find out exactly why this man is so elusive? Find out when Beyond The Gates premieres on CBS on February 24, 2025, at 2 pm ET / 1 pm CT.
