Beyond the Gates creator and showrunner, Michele Val Jean has expressed her feelings as the series draws closer to air. Many of the upcoming soap’s details are public, including the cast, character bios, and more. Also, writers are writing, and the various crews, departments, and behind-the-scenes players are simultaneously working to make BTG happen.

It’s an Emotional Time

Things are coming together in Atlanta, where the upcoming CBS soap will be filmed. Val Jean is in a unique position for broadcast daytime television. She gets to create a soap opera from scratch—something that hasn’t happened in 25 years. And on top of it all, she gets to steer the ship on this mammoth production.

So it should be no surprise that Val Jean is feeling the moment. She recently posted her emotions on X, formerly Twitter, presumably in reaction to the reveal of the final wave of casting announcements for the original cast.

The Emmy winner took the time to savor the entire experience when she wrote, “This was an emotional day. To see the show in my head come to life-actors, wardrobe, so much hair! sets…i mean, wow! i’m so grateful for this company that’s come together to make my vision a reality. So grateful for you guys. #BeyondTheGates”

One of the few unknowns, as of now, is the premiere date for BTG. In the replies to her post, Val Jean addressed that much-anticipated nugget of information. She teased, “There’ll be an announcement soon.”

The most recent BTG casting announcement included Amen‘s Clifton Davis joining as “Vernon Dupree, the Dupree family patriarch and husband of Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie).” Last month, Bold and the Beautiful and Guiding Light alum Karla Mosley posted about her own exciting experience.

Soap Hub will update you on all things BTG, including the early 2025 premiere date.

BTG is developed and produced by the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, led by Sheila Ducksworth, in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble. This marks the first-ever one-hour Black daytime soap and the first daytime drama to premiere since “Passions” in 1999.

Michele Val Jean is the creator, executive producer, and showrunner alongside executive producers Sheila Ducksworth, Robert Guza Jr., Julie Carruthers, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner, and Anna Saalfeld.
