So far, the producers and writers behind Beyond the Gates are ensuring viewers do not miss the very end of the show. In the first two episodes, the endings were must-see TV. The way The Duprees had Dani’s back and then walked out on Hayley was classic TV. And now we know the Dani/Bill golf club scenes are coming, which we’ve seen in the show’s trailers leading up to the debut.
The Interlopers
Bill (Timon Durrett) and Hayley (Marquita Goings) are waging an invasion of Fairmont Crest. It isn’t territory that belongs to them, but they don’t care. They’re making themselves welcome, and Fairmont Crest is pushing back. Maybe we should say punching them back?
Hayley’s mother is gone, and she never knew her father, which is why Dani’s (Karla Mosley) family accepted her into their home. And that is why this is such a betrayal for Dani. The audacity of Bill that this wasn’t another one of his meaningless affairs that Dani simply tolerated. This one involved the end of a 30-year marriage, and then Bill flaunted the new love in his ex’s face with the upcoming FC Country Club wedding and becoming one of her neighbors.
Hayley said she gets the anger and the damage she and Bill have inflicted. But does she? If she did, why would she think Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix), the psychiatrist and Dani’s sister, would mediate some sort of peace treaty? She’s with Dani’s ex-husband. What makes her think that any Dupree could or even should accept her back into the fold?
In the first two episodes, Hayley seemed a bit deluded. All of this pomp and circumstance is her dream. She wants the country club wedding and the big house behind The Gates. Bill, for his part, seems to love making deals, having people owe him one, and making the impossible possible. It’s as if he gets off on the thrill and the devastation that’s often left behind.
Take his confrontation with Vernon (Clifton Davis). There was so much that went unsaid during their conversation. He clearly knows a lot about The Duprees, and not all of it is good. What went on with Martin (Brandon Claybon)? And why would knowing this information get Vernon to help make Hayley’s dream wedding a reality? Seems like at least some of The Duprees and the FC community as a whole are going to be at that wedding after all. That’s a powerful secret.
Five Burning Questions to Think About
- At the hospital, why was Eva’s mom, Dana (Trisha Mann-Grant), staring at Nicole’s husband, Ted (Maurice Johnson)?
- How much blackmail material does Bill have on Vernon and the Duprees?
- How long will it take for Ashley (Jen Jacob) and Andre (Sean Freeman) to get together?
- What’s up with Martin’s dreams?
- Who’s Hayley’s father, and is he going to be someone important that we’ve already met?
