There’s bad news for Hunter King and the cast of Life In Pieces, but it’s good news for fans of Summer Newman Abbott and The Young and the Restless!
Numerous sites are reporting that Life In Pieces, which ran for four seasons on CBS, will not be returning for a fifth year next fall. CBS has canceled the sitcom.
This means King will have more full-time availability to play Summer on YR. The actress landed the recurring role of Clementine on Life In Pieces in the show’s first season and later went on to become a series regular on the CBS sitcom.
Last year, she found time in her schedule to reprise Summer, the role for which she’s won two Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Younger Leading Actress In A Drama Series. There’s a term in the business known as “first position,” which means that one project over another usually has first dibs an actor’s schedule.
Fortunately, YR and Life In Pieces were both on the same network — CBS — so scheduling was never a big problem. Now, it won’t be won at all, alas, with Life In Pieces getting the ax.
This means we’ll likely see more of Summer this, er, summer. The timing couldn’t be more perfect as King is involved in a front burner storyline.
Summer is in a triangle with Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Lola (Sasha Calle), the woman to whom Summer gave part of her liver. Life In Pieces fourth season continues to air on CBS on Thursdays at 9:30 p.m.
The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
