Eileen Davidson initially believed that she, like Tracey Bregman, her former co-star on The Young and the Restless, had lost her home to the deadly fires in Malibu.
While promoting her role in the film A Walk to Vegas (which stars her husband Vincent Van Patten), Davidson told Soap Hub that she received a report that her home was on fire and was gone.
“The house was on the news and [it was] burning,” Davidson shares. “We were in Texas, and we found out the next day that the house was okay. We pretty much thought we’d lost everything.”
There was an incredible amount of smoke damage, however, and currently, Davidson’s big job is getting her home back in order.
“It’s been weeks of having people in our house cleaning everything,” she says. “They took our clothes, and we’re not getting them back till the end of January.”
Under the best of circumstances, it’s a time-consuming process, but Davidson says that because it’s the holidays, things aren’t being done as quickly as they normally could be.
“It’s an ongoing thing,” she says. “We haven’t even tackled our backyard yet and that’s going to be the biggest thing.”
Davidson says she hasn’t yet spoken to Bregman, who lost everything, yet, but she has reached out to her by text.
“I have a lot of friends who’ve lost everything,” says Davidson. “It makes me feel so blessed [that our house survived].”
