Grey’s Anatomy is a medical drama, but it’s really a show about relationships. While romantic ones are fun to watch unfold, the show relies on the strength of their friendships.
There are so many great friendships on this show, but there is a handful of them that really are truly unforgettable. Here are the top five Grey’s Anatomy friendships of all time!
George & Izzie
George (T.R. Knight) and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) were great friends, despite going through some rough patches. There was that one time they decided to be romantic, which failed, but they always had each other’s backs and supported one another. Not to mention the last scene of the two of them was absolutely heartbreaking.
Meredith & Alex
Though they started out not liking each other very much, their friendship has grown a great deal over the seasons. Now that Cristina is gone, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) really relies on Alex (Justin Chambers) and trusts him with her deep secrets. Alex also trusts Meredith like a sister, so it’s great that they have each other.
April & Arizona
While they may not seem like likely friends, April (Sarah Drew) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) were always close. They supported one another through their dark periods, and there were plenty of those! Though they’re no longer on the show, we’ll always look back on this friendship fondly.
Derek & Mark
Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Mark (Eric Dane) had their ups and downs (like Mark bedding Derek’s wife!), but they were brothers. They loved each other so much and always knew how to support each other. There may have been a lot of teasing, but it was always all in good fun.
Meredith & Cristina
There’s no question the number one Grey’s Anatomy friendship is Meredith and Cristina’s (Sandra Oh). These two were inseparable from day one and were an unstoppable duo. Who can forget dancing it out? They were there for each other through the good and bad, which is exactly what friendship is supposed to be like.
