Jane Fonda not-so-subtly put Megyn Kelly in her place during a segment on the former Fox News journalist’s first week on NBC.
Megan Kelly Today booked Fonda and fellow legend Robert Redford on Wednesday to promote their new film, Our Souls at Night.
Not surprisingly, the interview didn’t stay on topic.
After Kelly queried Redford on when it was in his career that he realized he was a heartthrob–he said after The Way We Were came out–the talk show host asked him if he did or did not still love his leading lady, in the film of course.
Jane interjected that she didn’t want to hear about Barbra Streisand. “I get jealous,” Fonda remarked before being asked an even more awkward question.
Kelly started off by reminding the Oscar winner that she has “been an example to everyone [about] how to age beautifully and with strength and unapologetically.”
Then she stated to the icon, who is just shy of 80 years old, “I think [that] is to your credit. But you look amazing. I read that you said you’re not proud to say you’ve had work done. Why not?”
Fonda scrunched up her pretty face, took a breath and answered, “Good attitude. Good posture. I take care of myself.”
And then, without skipping a beat, she veered toward her goal, stating, “But let me tell you why I love this movie that we did, Our Souls at Night–rather than plastic surgery.”
Robert Redford seemed to enjoy this retort, being amused by the whole sit-down with his feisty co-star.
Meanwhile, social media went wild. Actress Sarah Michelle Geller tweeted, “So how come Megyn Kelly didn’t ask Robert Redford if he had any plastic surgery? Way to stay composed Jane Fonda, ” hash tagging her comment with the term “double standard”. Touché!
