The Bachelor is all about the drama, but this week’s episode got emotional on a very deep level.
During Elyse’s one-on-one date with Colton Underwood, the 31-year-old opened up about an extremely tough time in her life.
She told Colton about her sister Sarah’s devastating death and how it has affected her as a person.
The pair had the conversation while on their date in San Diego and Elyse explained how her sister passed away.
“I had something that really shifted my priorities in life. My sister was a labor and delivery nurse and she was married, and she got pregnant with her second [child],” she said.
“Unfortunately she started feeling a bit off and found out that she had this tumor that is cancerous.”
“With her being pregnant at the time and obviously putting that baby first, there wasn’t a whole lot the doctors wanted to do besides get that baby as close to term as possible,” she explained.
“It was just incredible what she put her body through to bring that baby into our lives.”
She continued, “But, she passed. It was just awful. It was tough, but now we have a new little member of our family.”
Though the death was obviously a traumatic experience for Elyse’s family, they decided to create something positive out of her sister’s memory and started a charity called Sarah’s Closet, which provides clothes to newborn babies.
“I think our conversation tonight was difficult. It’s not easy for me to open up about stuff that’s personal with my family, but he was an incredible listener tonight,” Elyse said.
“I never expected that so quickly you can be this vulnerable with somebody and open up to the potential of what could be down the line.”
We are so proud of Elyse for opening up and being vulnerable with her story!
