The soap world has been buzzing all weekend about Genie Francis off contract at General Hospital — which means she could be scooped up by Days of Our Lives (DOOL), who could resurrect Diana Colville, the character she played in the 1980s. Now, wouldn’t THIS story be a great one!
Francis brought Diana Colville to Salem in 1987 as an old friend Jennifer’s older brother, Mike Horton, but she soon became involved with Roman Brady. No, not really. She was involved with John Black (Drake Hogestyn), who thought he was Roman. Actually, when Diana left the show in 1989, he was still known as Roman.
In fact, she had left town after realizing she had shot Roman/John and begged him not to follow. She left Jack high and dry too because they were partners at The Spectator. So, if Adrienne is looking to sell her shares, perhaps Diana could come to town to return to her former business, which was her family business.
But, let’s take it a step further because why the heck not? What if Stefan (Tyler Christopher) isn’t really Vivian’s (Louise Sorel) supposed stillborn baby come to life and instead is the lovechild of Diana and John? For fans who followed Christopher from GH, where Francis played his mother, it would be a thrill to see these actors reunited.
There are two possible ways the daddy sweepstakes could play out. Stefan could be John’s baby and perhaps he’s there seeking revenge against him for a grievance he believes he perpetrated on his real mother. Got a better idea why John is poisoning his best friend Steve? Perhaps Stefan has done something to him.
A second scenario could keep him as Stefano’s son and again — he could be the one pulling John’s strings. Perhaps Stefano kidnapped Diana and she resented that John listened and never looked for her and saved her. Stefan could be using former programming that Stefano used to manipulate John.
Either way, Diana could come to town and do battle with Vivian, John, Marlena, Steve, or anyone else who gets in her or her son’s way. We’re betting head writer Ron Carlivati could come up with something worthy of the Emmy-winning actress and please longtime fans at the same time.
Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
