Hearts broke across soapdom Thursday when Ben ended things with Ciara on Days of Our Lives, but this was something that needed to happen… and here’s why!
This story is not just about young love but about the search for redemption.
Ben’s (Robert Scott Wilson) specifically but Ciara (Victoria Konefal) is looking for it as well, mostly stemming from Chase raping her. She wants to prove she’s gotten past it — that she is whole again.
Trusting Ben was a huge leap of faith for a young woman who had her trust shattered previously… not just by Chase, but by supposed “safe” choice Tripp (Lucas Adams).
More than anything, Ciara fears being made a fool. This is why going against Hope (Kristian Alfonso) was so hard.
Hearing what Abby (Kate Mansi) had to say was also unnerving. Ciara wanted to believe more than anything that she could trust her instincts and her instincts were telling her that Ben wasn’t the same man he was before he got the help he needed. She wanted to believe in his redemption.
But with everyone trying to talk her out of trusting her instincts, the doubts about Ben started to creep in and chip away at her belief in their relationship.
If Ben accepted that she had those doubts and decided to be with her anyway, he would never believe he truly deserved to have a life with Ciara and his redemption would never be complete.
This way, deciding that he deserves to be with someone who truly believes in him and not settling for less puts him one step closer to achieving it.
It also will help Ciara learn to respect him and his journey even more… eventually. Going to visit Theo will provide her the chance to get some perspective and perhaps clarify her feelings for Ben.
Theo loves her unconditionally and doesn’t judge: He might be the perfect person to help Ciara figure things out.
Soap Hub can’t help but root for these two. They remind us of Ciara’s parents’ (Bo and Hope) love story and we’re rooting for them to overcome the odds in much the same way.
It’s been a long time since a young couple had captured the hearts and imagination of soap fans the way Ben and Ciara have — and here’s hoping their story is just beginning.
