From the beginning, The Young and the Restless fans were pretty much evenly split on Kyle and Lola (Kola), versus Summer and Kyle (Skyle). That’s fine. That’s what soaps are all about.
The Young and the Restless Couple Drama
Kyle (Michael Mealor) was in love with Lola (Sasha Calle) but married Summer (Hunter King) when she blackmailed him into it in exchange for donating a piece of her liver to a dying Lola. Kyle went through with the shotgun wedding, but then couldn’t stay away from Lola, so he left Summer and married her. All soapy so far.
Then, in an about-face nobody saw coming, Kyle decided he’d loved Summer all along, left Lola, jumped into bed with Summer, and proposed marriage to her. They planned an elopement. The night before, Summer played Runaway Bride. Why? Because she decided Kyle was still in love with Lola. Oh…Kay… that was a little weirder, but – soaps!
Now and Again
Except then, what had been a spotty story went completely off the rails. Summer returned to Genoa City to spy on Kyle and was furious that the guy she dumped was making polite conversation in a public place with his ex-wife. How dare he! Why wasn’t Kyle at home, curled up into a fetal ball, sobbing? (Never mind that his grandmother just died and Lola was sharing her condolences.)

Why Summer finally made her presence known to Kyle, he swore he still loved her. Nope, not good enough, she said.
So then Kyle said, OK, if that’s how you want it, I won’t bother you anymore. Oh, noes, Summer burst into tears, why doesn’t Kyle love me anymore? I don’t understand, this came totally out of nowhere!
Round Two
Summer admitted she still loved Kyle. Kyle admitted he still loves Summer. But you said we weren’t any good for each other, Summer sobbed, and now you’re trying to get rid of me by encouraging me to take my dream job! When will her torture end?
