Beth Maitland has been popping in and out of The Young and the Restless for decades. The past couple of Traci’s appearances have not only been powerful but have also proven that the character and actress are needed more.

Key Takeaways

  • Traci was a surrogate mother to Lily in her time of need.
  • The character also read Diane the riot act when she needed to hear the truth.
  • Beth Maitland was on fire in both situations.

Why The CBS Soap Should Keep Traci on the Canvas

The character of Traci has been around for four decades, but she isn’t often used beyond quick pop-ins for family moments. Traci’s last big storyline was falling in love with Alan (Christopher Cousins), only to learn he was Alan’s evil twin, Martin (Christopher Cousins), who kidnapped Sharon (Sharon Case) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford).

However, over the past couple of weeks, Traci has shown up in epic moments that have reminded us why this character should be a key player on the show.

One of those moments was Traci being the confidante that Lily (Christel Khalil) needed after she learned Malcolm (Shemar Moore) was sick. Lily has been through the wringer lately, some of it of her own doing, but having Traci as a mother figure was a great reminder of their history because of Traci’s daughter, Colleen (Tammin Sursok).

Now that Lily has a newfound brother in Holden (Nathan Owens) and is dealing with Malcolm’s illness, she will need Traci more than ever.

Another Traci moment that revealed she needs to be in the mix more was her literally reading Diane (Susan Walters, who agreed with what Traci said to Diane) the riot act. Traci went into overprotective-sister mode, defending Jack’s (Peter Bergman) actions with Patty (Stacy Haiduk) while reminding Diane that she led Jack and Kyle (Michael Mealor) to believe she was dead for over a decade.

Y&R Fans Agree

It takes a lot to get Traci riled up, but Diane did, and the outcome was pure soap bliss for fans. In fact, one Reddit thread agreed, screaming with excitement over Traci putting Diane in her place.

“PREACH, TRACY! PREACH IT!!!!! So glad that someone finally slapped Diane in the face with her ugly little past,” insisted a fan.

Even Walters chimed in on the subject, agreeing that Diane deserved what she got from Taci in those standout scenes.

Another fan in the Reddit thread echoed what we said, that Traci needs to be on the CBS soap more. “I wish Tracy was a regular, constant role on the show. She’s a breath of wisdom and fresh air,” said the fan.

Traci has Y&R fans and us cheering thanks to Maitland’s outstanding performances lately. Here’s hoping the writers give us more of this Abbott sister.
