Time flies when you’re having fun. That’s likely how Peter Bergman feels, as his 30th anniversary of playing Jack Abbott on The Young and the Restless approaches.

Happy Anniversary, Peter Bergman

“It’s been a real joy for me, to retrace Jack’s footsteps over the last 30 years,” said Bergman. “I am struck by the enduring friendships I have made at YR, and deeply grateful to our fans, who have stood by Jack, cheered him on, or waited patiently for him to get his act together…for three decades! I’m happy, amazed and truly thankful…and it sure feels good. Thank you one and all.”

Bergman joined The Young and the Restless in 1989 at a pivotal time in the show’s storylines. The Abbott clan has lost control of Jabot Cosmetics to Victor (Eric Braeden) and Jack was determined to win the company back for the sake of his father, John (Jerry Douglas).

His first move was to split up Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) from Jim (John O’Hurley) so he could marry her himself and use that as leverage against Victor to get Jabot back — game on!

The Abbotts eventually regained control of Jabot while Jack and Victor’s feud continued. Over the years, the men have fought over business, as well as for the affections of the same women, including Nikki and Diane (Alex Donnelley). Jack’s sister, Ashley (Eileen Davidson), has been romantically paired with Victor, which has provided fuel for the dynamic between the two power players.

A Special Episode

YR will honor Bergman in its Monday, November 25th episode, which will focus on Jack. As Jack reads his sister Traci’s (Beth Maitland) memoir, viewers will be treated to classic clips. Davidson and Maitland will appear alongside their TV brother in this special episode.

Peter Bergman has received 21 Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor (including one for his role as Cliff on All My Children). He took home the gold for playing Jack in 1991, 1992, and 2002. Along with awards from various publications that cover the soap world, Bergman is one of daytime’s most celebrated stars. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
