Summer’s been playing with fire in her pursuit of Billy on The Young and the Restless. Now that Phyllis has gotten wind of it, she’s calls her daughter out on her actions!
Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) has shown us that “denial” isn’t just a river in Egypt! She’s seen little hints here and there that there might be something going on with Summer (Hunter King) and Billy (Jason Thompson), but she didn’t fully acknowledge it – until Kyle (Michael Mealor) presented some hard, cold facts.
Tognoni previewed today’s showdown between mother and daughter to TV Insider.
“I don’t think Phyllis would have ever dreamed that Summer would do something as distasteful as going after someone in her own family,” Tognoni said. “It’s been fun balancing it.”
Learning the truth from Kyle was salt in the wounds in a way as Phyllis and he don’t have a particularly close bond.
“Kyle coming in with this information blows Phyllis away,” Tognoni says. “She finds out that Summer has a ticket to go to Philadelphia, which insinuates she’s going after Billy. There’s a denial phase, but then there’s a moment of truth where Phyllis calls out Summer on what she’s doing.”

This isn’t like Phyllis going up against rivals like Sharon (Sharon Case) or Christine (Lauralee Bell). “It’s pretty intense and raw,” Tognoni says.
“This is a scenario that’s uncharted territory. As an actress, it’s stretching me and it is fun. I like it. Mal Young [Y&R’s executive producer and head writer] has done a wild job. The editing is beautiful. It’s going to be a great episode and I think people are going to like it.”
The question remains is whether or not mother and daughter will survive this betrayal or if their relationship is marred beyond repair!
