Summer is over on The Young and the Restless.
Not just because it’s winter in Wisconsin, but because Summer (Hunter King) is off to Dubai, to head up the Newman office there. Thanks to her years of experience of… sitting around the pool, claiming she’s doing sunscreen research?
Prior to taking off, Summer was involved in a pretty heavy duty story, first betting Kyle (Michael Mealor) that she could get Billy (Jason Thompson) into bed, then actually getting Billy into bed… only to learn that he was merely using Summer to get back at Phyllis (Gina Tognoni).
Since then, Summer hasn’t had more to do than listlessly threaten to tempt Kyle away from Lola (Sasha Calle). She got a few barbs in, but her heart seemed to not be in it.
Will you miss the Newman heiress in Genoa City? Here’s what over 7,000 fans have to say.
I Ain’t Missing You At All
For 86% of the audience, Summer’s departure is no great loss. You didn’t miss her the last time she was gone, and her return was mostly a sort of annoyance.
The chasing after Billy wasn’t what you expected from Phyllis’s Supergirl, and the snarking with Mariah (Camryn Grimes) felt rehashed. Sure, it was kind of fun watching Summer manipulate Victor (Eric Braeden) into buying her stuff Mommy and Daddy wouldn’t, but that also got real old real fast.
She and Kyle didn’t set off any sparks, neither did she and anyone else. Which means Summer is extra. Maybe she’ll do better in Dubai.
Summer is a member of a core family, 13% remind, and we can always use more Newmans. Her triangle with Phyllis and Billy had years worth of potential story left – especially if the predicted pregnancy ever materialized. Why nip it in the bud before it had a chance to strut its stuff?
