It’s been several years since Justin Hartley said farewell to the Newman family on The Young and the Restless. And now, the actor celebrates a very important milestone.

Happy Birthday, Justin Hartley

That’s because he was born on January 29, 1977, in Knoxville, Illinois, which means that this talented performer is turning 47 years old today! After attending the Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the University of Illinois at Chicago, Hartley ventured to California where he found employment on the NBC daytime drama Passions.

From 2002 to 2006, he played Nicholas Foxworth “Fox” Crane and after deciding to leave the soap, he was cast in The CW pilot for an Aquaman series titled Mercy Reef.

Though the series received no further order, Hartley was cast on the network’s Superman series Smallville. There, he played Oliver Queen AKA Green Arrow and during his tenure, he co-wrote an episode titled “Sacrifice” and directed another that aired in 2011 called “Dominion.”

Upon the cancellation of Smallville, Hartley appeared in Chuck, Castle, Heart of Dixie, and Melissa & Joey. He also had a starring role in the one-season-and-done series Emily Owens, M.D., and recurring parts in two ABC serials — Revenge and Mistresses.

Between 2014 and 2016, Hartley was Adam Newman on Y&R. His portrayal of the baddie with a heart earned him a Daytime Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actor category and a legion of fans.

After landing the role of Kevin Pearson on the NBC series This Is Us, Hartley left daytime, and Adam was presumed dead in an explosion. Hartley’s other acting credits include CSI: New York, Cold Case, and the films Red Canyon, Spring Breakdown, and A Bad Moms Christmas. Hartley has returned to CBS for the drama series Tracker in which the actor will star, and it premieres after this year’s Super Bowl.
