Sharon hasn’t nailed the mastermind behind the sex ring on The Young and the Restless (YR) just yet, but the actress who plays her has something great to celebrate!
Today is Sharon Case‘s (Sharon) 23rd anniversary in Genoa City. As veteran Y&R fans know, she wasn’t the first actress cast as Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) first love. Two other actresses briefly played the part, but producers discovered the third time was the charm.
In fact, the show wanted Case so much it originally brought her on as a non-contract player since she was committed to the syndicated soap Valley of the Dolls (which only aired in select markets and why you may not recall it).
The Early Years
Once Dolls failed to get a pickup, Y&R put Case on contract. By then, Nick and Sharon’s epic love affair was in full swing.
After Nick was sprung from prison after being wrongly accused of trying to kill Sharon’s rapist Matt Clark, he and Sharon wed — much to Nikki’s chagrin!
Soon, Sharon became pregnant with Noah and when it looked like her son wasn’t going to survive, friends brought her firstborn daughter, Cassie, back to her. Nick warmly welcomed Cassie as her own. The couple faced other challenges: Nick’s affair with Grace, Matt’s return, and the diabolical Cameron Kirsten.
Losing Cassie
Tragedy struck when an underage Cassie (Camryn Grimes) died from injuries she sustained while trying to drive a car. By outward appearances, Nick seemed to be in deeper pain than Sharon was.

He fell into an affair with Phyllis and the two conceived a daughter Summer. Nick and Sharon split and he moved onto a new life. Still, there were reconciliations over the years, most notably one in Paris.
Eventually Nick and Sharon had another daughter, Faith, just as Cassie had predicted they would. But Sharon turned into the Reva Shayne of Genoa City, marrying both Nick’s father, Victor, and his half-brother, Adam. There were also relationships with Jack and Billy Abbott. Also, Sharon burned down the Newman ranch!
Explaining Her Behavior
A new writing regime explained Sharon’s arguably uncharacteristic behavior by having her diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. More recently, she’s been on medication and has started a relationship with journalist Scott Grainger.
Not surprisingly, Nick’s expressed some jealousy over this new relationship – despite him being happily involved with Chelsea.
Sharon’s Next Chapter
The fact that Adan – not Nick – is Christian’s dad will inevitably cause a rift between Nick and Chelsea. Will that open a door to a reunion between Nick and Sharon? Well, their 25th anniversary is approaching! Wouldn’t that be a great time for a Sharon/Nick re-marriage?
