It’s summer and the soaps are sizzling hot. Both The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful hit five-month highs for the week ending July 2.

Soap Ratings Race

According to Nielsen, Live plus Same Day Ratings, Y&R scored 3.37 million viewers and B&B brought in 2.97 million viewers. These are the largest audiences the shows have seen since the week ending February 12, 2021.

What stories were percolating in Genoa City, Y&R’s locale, and Los Angeles (where B&B is set) that had viewers tuning in?

Y&R saw Ben “Stitch” Rayburn (Sean Carrigan) showing up again while Summer Newman (Hunter King) hightailed it out of town so that Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) could continue seeing his son Harrison (Kellen Enriquez). Summer shared touching farewells with important people and loved ones in her life before leaving town. Kyle gave Summer a kiss farewell but she left him his engagement ring.

Rumors of Ashland Locke’s (Richard Burgi) health were posted on a gossip website. Later, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) shared with Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) that Ashland is indeed dying. Victoria added that she and Ashland are planning a merger of their two companies.

Also, Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) learned that her mother Naya Benedict (Ptosha Storey) refused to meet with her while she’s in jail. Amanda blasted her grandfather Sutton Ames (Jack Landron), demanding to know how he got Naya to take the fall for him.

Summer’s departure turned out to be great news for Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman) offered Sally Summer’s old position on a trial basis. Summer actually recommended Sally for the gig.

Meanwhile, over on B&B soap ratings increased as tensions built in a few stories. Quinn Fuller Forrester (Rena Sofer) prepared to renew her wedding vows with Eric Forrester (John McCook). Before the two could complete the ceremony, Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang) interrupted the festivities. Armed with the knowledge that Quinn had slept with Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor), Brooke demanded that Quinn come clean with her husband.

Also, Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) was held prisoner by Justin Barber (Aaron D. Spears), who wants to take over Spencer Publications. Justin’s plan is for the authorities to never learn what Thomas has — that Vinny Walker (Joe LoCicero) threw himself in front of Bill Spencer’s (Don Diamont) car hoping that Liam Spencer would have to go to jail forever and Thomas could be with Hope Logan Spencer (Annika Noelle).

Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) gave birth to her and Finn’s (Tanner Novlan) son. They decided to name him “Hayes” after her mother Taylor Hamilton Hayes Forrester (Hunter Tylo).

The Young and the Restless (YR) and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) both air weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
