Jason Thompson won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series thanks to a story that re-addressed Billy’s anguish over losing his daughter Delia after she was struck and killed by a car. Now, The Young and the Restless star thinks it’d be a good idea if another aspect of Billy’s life were addressed.

As viewers know, in addition to Delia, whom he shared with Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson), Billy has a son, Johnny, whose birth mother is Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), and Katie, whose birth mother is Victoria (Amelia Heinle). Viewers haven’t seen a great deal of Billy’s son and daughter, but Thompson’s on board with exploring those familial dynamics.

“It’s a way to tell story that is unique…” Thompson told TV Insider of working with child actors. He certainly has experience with doing that from his time as Dr. Patrick Drake on General Hospital. “I got to work with Brooklyn [Rae Silzer, who plays Patrick’s daughter Emma] for many years. That brought so much vitality to the story. Her ability is amazing. That’s a great opportunity to tell story.”

Losing Delia will always be a part of Billy’s makeup. “He’s trying to understand his place in the world,” Thompson adds. “He’s trying to look at his life and take stock in it. It’s about evolving. It’s what I love about daytime. I try to show how the character might evolve. If I’m not evolving personally, then I’m not doing justice to what Billy is going through. Billy got to a deeper level.”

According to published reports, YR is looking to return to the studio later this month and resume taping. The show’s been on a production hiatus since March due to the coronavirus. Soap Hub will bring details about the show getting back to taping as they become available.

Soap Hub congratulates Thompson on his well-deserved Daytime Emmy win. YR airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
