Family peacekeeper Traci Abbott has re-assembled Ashley’s shredded contract on The Young and the Restless, but can she put her family, currently in disarray, back together? She’s going to need everyone’s cooperation to make that happen!

Maitland, who was Y&R’s first acting Emmy-winner ever when she took home the gold for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1985, is speaking out on just how bad things really are and whether or not the Abbotts will survive this current drama!

The actress concurs that Ashley’s (Eileen Davidson) actions have been justified given how Jack (Peter Bergman) has directly and inadvertently treated his sister in the past.

“Ashley has been driven to the brink and to make a decision that, she feels, is completely justified,” Maitland told TV Insider. “She’s been so emotional in her decisions, but she may not understand the widespread ripple effect she’s having on the people she loves.”

Traci feels that the Abbotts need to examine the past in order to heal and move on into the future. To that end, Y&R took a page from the hit drama This is Us and created some flashbacks of the Abbott clan in the past.

The actress applauds the show’s casting department for finding such great actors to play younger Abbotts, including Valentina Sky Gordon, who plays Young Traci.

“Off-camera, she was just as animated as she could be,” Maitland says.

The actress says she had a different theory than the plan the show’s writers had in that Jack is a true Abbott after all.

“My fear was that Ashley and Abby (Melissa Ordway) had switched the hair samples and that Traci wasn’t the true Abbott. After all, Traci has never fit in, never been like the rest of the Abbotts. I thought, “Oh, my goodness, what would that be like?”

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
