Doug Davidson is The Young and the Restless’ longest-running cast member, having joined the show as Paul Williams in 1978. Now, the actor has some news to share about his status with the long-running serial.

Doug Davidson Makes A Comeback

“‘Paul’ makes his return on Friday, October 9, 2020 #catchmeifyoucan,” Davidson tweeted. Fans have been championing for Davidson to spend more time in Genoa City ever since the actor switched to recurring status in 2018.

“It’s about time @YandR_CBS,” posted Davidson supporter @ToniVeltri. “Please give this guy a storyline. The fans want him front and center.”

“I have two things to celebrate on 10-9,” added another Davidson supporter, @JoHamilton45442544. “My daughter’s 50th birthday and your fabulous return. I’m a huge fan of your fine acting since day one. Congratulations on your return. YR needs to get smart and give you a long term contract. That’s what their fans and Paul’s fans want.”

Davidson’s role was expanded after spending a few years on YR when the show switched from being a half-hour soap to a 60-minute program. The show’s then-head writer and creator, William J. Bell, added a family for Paul, which included parents, Carl (Brett Hadley) and Mary (Carolyn Conwell), and a sister, Patty (played over the years by Lilibet Stern, Andrea Evans, and most recently, Stacy Haiduk).

In the late 1980s, YR thrust Davidson into the spotlight with a more adult storyline. Paul fell for the mysterious Cassandra (Nina Arvesen) only to find out that she was also “Sandy,” the wife of his new older friend George (Jonathan Farwell). The story catapulted Davidson to the top of the popularity charts. It was around this time that YR became the top-rated CBS soap.

Later, Paul was paired with Christine (Lauralee Bell) and the pair wed twice, the second time in 2013. The detective and the legal eagle have tackled many cases. What might they take on next? Stay tuned to find out. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
