Key Takeaways

  • Walton’s memoir, The Young and the Rest of Us, is scheduled for release in 2027.
  • The actress began playing Jill on Y&R in 1987.
  • Lauren Koslow recently took over the role of Jill.

Jess Walton Shares Her Life Story

Walton (Jill) has been entertaining soap fans with her portrayal of Jill since 1987. Fans know every detail of Jill’s life; now they’ll get to know more about the woman behind the iconic role.

Walton has written a memoir titled The Young and the Rest of Us, set for release in April 2027 by Kensington Publishing. The book is already available for preorder, and the publisher’s website gave readers a sneak peek of what to expect. “Emmy Award-winning actress Jess Walton, known to millions as the iconic Jill Abbott on the #1 soap opera The Young and the Restless shares her extraordinary journey to stardom, sobriety, true love, and self-discovery in this startingly candid, intimate, and star-studded memoir.”

According to the blurb, Walton’s journey starts from her beginnings in Toronto to her early days in Hollywood, hanging out with Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. Walton doesn’t hold anything back as she opens up about her struggles with alcohol and drugs. But with strong will and perseverance, she regained her sobriety while finding love and success in the soap world.

Walton’s memoir already has fans buzzing, and they can’t wait to read her story. The book’s release comes as Walton reaches an important milestone in her career.

40 Years As Jill

Walton began playing Jill in 1987, taking over from Brenda Dickson. Although Walton had big shoes to fill, she quickly made the role her own.

Throughout the years, Walton put on tremendous performances as Jill feuded with her longtime rival, Katherine (Jeanne Cooper), and fought with her late ex-husband, John (Jerry Douglas). Walton’s work earned her many accolades, including two Daytime Emmys.

In recent years, Jill has been in and out of Genoa City. When Jill made her return earlier this year, it wasn’t Walton in the role. Due to a scheduling conflict, Walton wasn’t available, so Days of Our Lives actress Lauren Koslow stepped in.

Although Koslow has done a great job filling in, fans miss Walton. The door is open for Walton’s return, and perhaps 2027 will be the year she steps back onscreen to celebrate her 40th anniversary as Jill.
