Victor always needs some crazy windmill to charge at on The Young and the Restless. And if it gives him the chance to control the life of a “loved one,” well, all the better! On the Wednesday, September 18 episode, he reiterated how he forbids Cole to see Victoria. Not just Cole and Victoria, but even Nikki pointed out that, perhaps, this may be absolutely none of his business.
But when has Victor allowed reason and common sense to guide his decisions? Victor wants Cole away from Victoria, and Victor will keep Cole away from Victoria. If his family won’t listen to him, he’ll pull in a different ally whether or not they’re willing.
Past History
Victor (Eric Braeden) will never confess that his major objection to Cole (J. Eddie Peck) is that the boy, first, had the gall to turn out not to be Victor’s biological child and, second, that Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) dared have sex with him. And she has never confirmed what Victor knows is true: Victor was obviously better.
Instead, the most Victor is willing to concede is that he doesn’t like that Cole also had a relationship with one of Victor’s ex-wives, Ashley (Eileen Davidson). And Ashley has never confirmed what Victor knows to be true: Victor was obviously better. But, despite all that, Victor isn’t above using Ashley to get his way.

Sick in the Head
When viewers last saw Ashley, she was in a mental institution. Good. That will make it even easier for Victor to manipulate her. Victor has saved Ashley from mental health crises before. It would be remiss of him not to do it. It would be only right for Victor to sweep in, free Ashley from her confinement (who, after all, knows better, trained mental health professionals, or Victor?), and bring her back to Genoa City.

Once home, Victor might gently suggest to her that Ashley pursue Cole again. It would be good for her. It would be good for him. And, let’s not forget, it would be best for Victor. Surely, Ashley owes him that much?
