Brian Gaskill, who recently wrapped up his run as Seth on The Young and the Restless, has been on many daytime soaps. What some may or may not know is that he actually got his start in prime time working for the hitmaker Aaron Spelling, who created Charlie’s Angels, Dynasty, and Melrose Place.
Model Behavior
Just as Melrose Place owes its origins to Beverly Hills, 9020 so does a show owe its beginnings to Melrose Place. We’re talking about Models Inc., which debuted on Fox on June 29, 1994. The series starred Linda Gray (Sue Ellen Ewing, Dallas) as Hillary Michaels (the mother of Heather Locklear’s Amanda Woodward), who headed up a modeling agency. Gaskill was cast as Hillary’s son David.
The actor shared on Instagram: “30 years ago this week I had a screen test at 20th Century Fox for the primetime series Models Inc. I got the part. They told me before I left the building. It was the most insane, crazy, amazing feeling ever. I’m not even sure I was the best person at that screen test for this part… But in the ‘chemistry test’ me and Cassidy Rae [who played Sarah Owens] hit it off and I made her laugh so that was the end of it…or the beginning I should say… It was the best of times… It was also the worst of times…”
Models Inc. was rare for creator Aaron Spelling in that it only lasted for 29 shows. Gaskill’s David was written out after about a dozen episodes. “However, it got me started in Hollywood and gave me my Screen Actors Guild card,” the thankful performer adds. “I am eternally grateful.… I think…lol…freakin Hollywood man…”
After leaving Models Inc., Brian Gaskill landed in New York City on All My Children as Bobby Warner. He’s also known for playing Rafe on Port Charles, Oscar on Bold and the Beautiful, and Dylan on Guiding Light.
