The Young and the Restless (YR) fans have never shied away from expressing their feelings when it comes to their favorite soap couples, which ones they love, which ones they love to hate and which ones they just plain don’t like!
Y&R has dabbled in putting together some new couples over the last several months: Ashley and Ravi, Sharon and Scott, and Nick and Chelsea. But one new potential duo has viewers divided as to how they feel!
Mariah and…Tessa?
Following Mariah’s (Camryn Grimes) realization that it wasn’t going to work out between her and Devon, she sought some solace and support from her new friend Tessa (Cait Fairbanks).

Mariah told Tessa she didn’t want to come off as insecure or pathetic with Devon, then doubted as to whether or not she was those very things. Tessa told Mariah that she is incredible and then supportively reached out and touched her hair, and then placed a supportive arm on her shoulder. The two women locked eyes.
What Might Have Been
Before things could advance between the two women — or not — Devon and Noah showed up with breakfast. It appears as if Y&R was testing the waters with a same sex relationship between the two women.
Tessa’s a relatively new character so we don’t know much about her relationship history. Mariah, however, has been on the canvas for nearly 3 1/2 years and in the time we’ve known her Mariah has never dated a woman. In fact, viewers have known her to have a crush on Nick; she is also Tyler’s ex-fiancee, and had a fling with Kevin, too.

Soap Hub asked how you fell about a Mariah/Tessa pairing and the results may surprise you.
In the past, soap fans have embraced same sex duos including Guiding Light’s Olivia and Natalia and General Hospital’s Brad and Lucas. But Y&R fans aren’t on board with this potential pairing. An overwhelming 78.5% of voters went with the option “I hate the idea – let them work out their relationship issues with their men!”
Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell
A very small percentage, 10.1% of you, said you loved the idea and that the two young women make a cute couple.
The rest, 11.4% of you, kept calmer and said that it’s too early to tell. This is quite true because we simply don’t have enough information to see where Y&R is going to go with this.
The show has dabbled in same sex unions before; Kay Chancellor, following the death of her husband Phillip, grew close to her pal Joann Curtis, but the story never took off. Time will tell if Y&R goes forward with a Tessa/Mariah pairing.
