Life Interrupted: Was Killing Cassie An EPIC Mistake For The Young and the Restless?

Cassie’s death on The Young and the Restless (YR) was a heart-breaking moment, perhaps one of the saddest ever on the top-rated soap. It forever changed the lives of many characters.

Do you wish the show had never pulled the plug on Sharon’s daughter? Soap Hub asked you to weigh in and here are the results.

Let Cassie Live!
Most of you, a little over 60%, feel that yes, it was a mistake to kill off Cassie (Camryn Grimes). She’d been given some stern lectures by her parents on safe sex and being responsible as she was just beginning to become a young woman.

Cassie drove a drunk Daniel (Michael Graziadei) home after a party, but she wasn’t qualified to drive. She crashed the car and died as a result of her injuries — with Sharon (Sharon Case) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) by her side.

Moving On
The rest of you, just under 40%, feel that the show made the right decision, noting that while it was sad, “it turned out fine.” (Well, not for Cassie!)

It’s worth noting that we would never have had Summer (Hunter King) if Cassie hadn’t died because Nick and Sharon wouldn’t have split up and Nick wouldn’t have fathered a daughter with Phyllis (Gina Tognoni).

What do you think? Post a comment!

One thing Cassie did predict as she was dying was that Nick and Sharon would indeed have another daughter, which they did — Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind)!

Mariah’s Loss
It’s hard to say how Mariah would have come into Sharon’s life had Cassie lived. Victor found Mariah in the place that was Cassie’s corner at Crimson Lights. So perhaps it was destiny that Mariah found her way back to her mom.

Had Cassie lived, though, it would have been a double reunion. And Grimes would have much reason to celebrate! After all, actors are paid by the role so she’d be making twice as much on days that she played both of Sharon’s daughters!

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
