It’s hard to believe that it’s been 25 (!) years since Joshua Morrow took on the role of Nicholas Newman on The Young And The Restless. He’s been a mainstay in Genoa City and now it’s time to celebrate the man, who plays Victor and Nikki’s son.
What some fans of Morrow’s may not know is that he almost didn’t get the part of Nick. He’d tested for the role of Dylan on YR’s sister soap, The Bold And The Beautiful, but the part went to Dylan Neal.
Instead, Morrow was destined to play Nick! Here’s a look back at six big storylines that helped endear Morrow to YR fans everywhere.
The Big House
Nick went to prison after it appeared he had tried to kill Matt Clark (Eddie Cibrian). Convict Larry Warton (David ‘Shark’ Fralick) set out to make Nick’s prison experience a horrific one. Fortunately, Victor (Eric Braeden) arrived just in time to rescue his son with evidence that Amy (Julianne Morrow) was Matt’s killer.
Noah’s Vigil
Soon after Nick and Sharon (Sharon Case) wed, they learned they were expecting their first child. Noah arrived prematurely after Sharon fell on some ice.
The vigil by Noah’s incubator was heartbreaking. Morrow and Case turned in heartfelt performances as they prepared to say farewell to their newborn son. But then, a miracle occurred and he lived!
Cassie’s Fate
Morrow got to play protective dad, a role he shines in, as stepdaughter Cassie (Camryn Grimes) got older and became interested in boys, namely Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei).
Tragedy ensued when Cassie tried to drive an inebriated Daniel home from a party. The car crashed! As Cassie lay dying in her hospital bed, Morrow and Case gave Emmy-caliber performances.

Nick blamed Daniel for Cassie’s death (before learning that she was behind the wheel). Nick came into conflict with his mother, Phyllis (Michelle Stafford).

In time, the two developed a friendship while playing video games. Cassie’s death paved the way for Nick and Sharon’s divorce, leading to Nick and Phyllis’ romance.
Dark Matter
Nick decided to go up against Victor in the business world by opening up his stylish corporate offices in a skyscraper overlooking Genoa City.
The stage was set for Nick to become a true power player, but this tale never got off the ground for some reason. Recently, Nick sold Dark Horse to black sheep half-brother, Adam (Mark Grossman).
Nick And Sharon
Morrow’s greatest story, of course, has been the ongoing continuation of his first – his love affair with Sharon. The two have endured much – the loss of a child, infidelity, Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) disdain for Sharon – and much, much more. Will Nick ever reunite with Sharon? Stay tuned to find out!
